Job description: Our non-profit client is currently seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Accountant to join their team on a contract basis to assist with year-end preparation and the annual audit process.As the Contract Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring their financial statements are accurate, compliant, and audit-ready. Reporting to the VP Finance and working closely with the finance team, you will contribute your expertise to streamline processes and support a seamless year-end close and audit.Benefits & Perks

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and reconcile financial statements and reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
  • Assist in year-end closing activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and adjustments.
  • Support the preparation of schedules, documentation, and other materials required for the external audit.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external auditors to address inquiries and provide necessary data.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and recommend solutions to enhance efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate and organized financial records and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA or equivalent) preferred, or significant progress toward completion.
  • Proven experience in accounting, ideally within the non-profit sector. Public practice experience is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and audit preparation.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to meeting deadlines.
