Job description: AccountantA global, listed insurance provider active in over 200 countries and territories is seeking an Accountant to join its Finance team in Canada. Responsibilities Include:Organize and analyze account data and general financial reports.
Take ownership of full-cycle accounting operations, including premium collections (accounts receivable), commission payments (accounts payable), regulatory remittances, claims payments, and insurance reserves.
Perform the month-end close process, including monthly reconciliations, on an accurate and timely basis.
Check and verify source documents such as claim systems, sales systems, Moneris deposits, etc.
Review insurance bank activity and prepare monthly bank reconciliations.
Prepare month-end journal entries.
Comply with relevant reporting requirements (Solvency/OSFI).
Assist management with ad hoc audit requests, reports, and process and special projects as assigned.
Ensure the general ledger accounts are materially correct and investigate differences regularly.
Assist the team in analyzing monthly financial results, provide commentary on variances, and support the preparation of quarterly/annual reports.
Help improve the accounting function by streamlining day-to-day processes and adding automation where possible.Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in accounting (pursuing CPA is a plus).
Insurance reporting and accounting experience.
1-4 years of professional accounting experience in a similar role.
Expert-level Microsoft Excel skills and experience with SAP is an asset.
Ability to self-problem solve and ask for help when needed.
Strong financial acumen, analytical skills, and application of IFRS is a plus.
Self-starter, professional, self-confident, and organized.
Attention to detail and ability to multitask.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment and identify process improvements and efficiencies.Summary
