Enriching the lives of their residents and communities, taking care of their team is their business philosophy and culture.This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated self-starter to join a dynamic and collaborative organization.Reporting to the Manager, Development Accounting, the Accountant, Development Accounting is responsible for the Company’s Canadian residential developments.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate development and construction treasury and payables processes, including reviewing development invoices, preparing capital draws, etc.
  • Account and report on development cost spend to relevant stakeholders
  • Monitor loan accounts including construction draws, interest payments, loan renewals, quarterly loan compliance
  • Monitor and report on development management fee revenue
  • Assist with review of monthly financial reports from property and development managers
  • Perform month-end close processes, including preparing journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, accruals, etc.
  • Prepare monthly financial reporting packages for external stakeholders
  • Assist with the preparation of annual audited financial statements, including note disclosures, and assist in quarterly review and annual audit process
  • Liaise with the development team, property managers, developers, equity partners, lenders, and other external parties
  • Assist with and/or lead special and ad hoc projects as necessary

Education, Experience and Skills

  • University degree in Finance or accounting
  • Must be a CPA or on track to become a CPA
  • A self-starter who is able to work independently in a fast-paced and challenging environment
  • Demonstrates strong attention to detail and adheres to high standards for work quality
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated with good work ethic and willingness to learn
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office products, especially Excel
