Together we are more than 5,000 dedicated faculty, librarians and staff supporting the University of Victoria’s diverse academic programs, world-class research and commitment to civic engagement.Job SummaryIn support of the overall goals of Residence Services, a unit within the division of Student Affairs, the Accounting Clerk performs a variety of financial and accounting functions using Residence Services enterprise system and other university software to assist in the daily operations of the department and ensure excellent service for students, staff and guests. Reporting to the Manager of Business Operations, the Accounts Clerk performs a variety of administrative duties supporting the Accounts Receivable; Accounts Payable; account reconciliation; petty cash, and other financial functions. This may involve completing complex reconciliations, developing spreadsheets for financial reporting, and assisting with year end and other accounting procedures.The Accounts Clerk assists the Manager of Business Operations by contributing to the development of strong financial and operational procedures that align with departmental and university policies and accepted accounting practises, and may train other employees in the implementation of these procedures. This position develops and maintains in-depth expertise with Residence Services procedures using a variety of software systems. The Accounts Clerk may provide clerical or other assistance in the department as required.Job RequirementsSkills:

- Extensive software skills and experience, including the development of spreadsheets and experience in accounting or enterprise software.
- Ability to organize and communicate financial information effectively, including the development of presentations on financial information

- Ablility to organize competing priorities to meet strict deadlines in a complex environment with multiple tasks
- Ability to effectively assess and organize work processes for efficiency and service
- Ability to train other employees in relevant skills.

- Maintain confidentiality in working with students and/or employee information and files.

Specialized Knowledge/Education:
- Grade 12 completion plus Accounting Technician Certificate or at least first year standing in a recognized accounting program (CGA, CMA, CA)
Experience:
- 3-5 years recent experience in a similar position within a computerized accounting software environment, preferably in a higher education or institutional environment, including:
- Experience performing complex reconciliations, including GL account and bank reconciliations.
- Experience maintaining and following up on Accounts Receivables
- Experience using computer software for spreadsheets, wordprocessing and automated accounting programs.
