Job description: Accounting ManagerOur client is searching for an Accounting Manager to join their team. This role will be responsible for managing a team of finance professionals and ensuring accurate and timely processing of financial transactions, primarily for the Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver offices. A successful candidate will provide oversight in a number of areas, including funds held in trust, banking, taxation and accounts payable. This role reports directly to the Director of Finance.Your success will be defined by your ability to:
- Review monthly trust and operating bank reconciliations
- Review daily cheques, wires and deposits for operating and trust bank accounts
- Review and approve electronic wire transactions
- Assist with bank account user administration
- Back-up coverage for trust accounting desk
- Prepare BC and Alberta trust filings and Law Society reporting
- Prepare periodic internal trust reporting requirements
- Assist with onboarding of new lawyers
- Respond to stop payments, void cheques, payment inquiries
- Respond to trust inquiries
- Assist with general ledger coding inquiries
- Review and approve invoices and expense reimbursements
- Reviewing statements and provide guidance regarding reconciliation of deposit accounts
- Maintain vendor relationships
- Maintain users in certain third party systems used by the firm
- Review and remit government tax remittances
Your strengths include:
- Degree in Accounting or Business or equivalent is preferred
- 5+ years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Working knowledge of trust accounting rules in accordance with the Law Society of Alberta and British Columbia
- Experience with supervising a team of professionals
- Ability to deal with highly confidential material
- Strong organizational and administrative skills and attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel and Outlook
- Working knowledge of an integrated accounting system is considered an asset
- Experience in a professional services firm considered an asset
- Experience with electronic payment methods for accounts payable is considered an asset
- Experience with accounting system implementations or upgrades is considered an asset
