Job description: Job Description:Our team is growing, and as a result we’re looking for Laboratory and Field Technicians to join our amazing group of professionals. As part of the Materials Engineering Team in Dartmouth, NS, you will be responsible for driving forward our ambitious plans to enhance our service offering in the province through your work with a close-knit team of engineering specialists, professionals, and technical staff. You will be responsible for conducting various tests and analyses to characterize and evaluate the properties of materials used in construction for our major clients. Your contributions will directly impact the advancement of cutting-edge technologies and the creation of novel materials that drive our industry forward.Responsibilities:

  • This position will require working on multiple projects simultaneously and requires strong scheduling and organizational skills.
  • You will perform a range of field and/ or laboratory tests and procedures to assess material (soil, aggregate, concrete, and hot mix asphalt) properties, composition, and behavior.
  • You will operate and maintain testing equipment and instruments, ensuring accurate and reliable results.
  • You will support equipment calibration, maintenance and general housekeeping requirements to maintain a safe working environment.
  • You will support sample management and the safe materials handling practices required for shipping, receiving, logging, handling, storage and disposal of samples.
  • You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including researchers, engineers, and scientists, to support ongoing projects and provide valuable insights.
  • You will compile and analyze experimental data for a variety of test methods, generating clear and concise reports to communicate findings to the team.
  • Follow WSP’s Project Review, Ethics and Safety Policies.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills, enabling effective collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Adaptability and a proactive approach to problem-solving and continuous improvement.
  • Proficiency in using laboratory equipment and software for data analysis.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on accuracy and precision in all tasks.
  • You enjoy a combination of both fieldwork and office-based work. You aren’t afraid to get your hands dirty!
  • Good written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Punctuality, reliability and the ability to work effectively in teams and on your own.
  • A willingness to do a variety of tasks and the ability to prioritize work according to importance and deadlines.
  • Light to moderate lifting will be required.
  • Sound understanding of the need for health and safety procedures in the workplace/ possess a safety conscious attitude.
