The Audit and Risk Branch strives to be a trusted business partner for the EPS. We add value to the organization by supporting proactive risk mitigation, promoting accountability and identifying opportunities to enhance operations and delivery of services. Reporting to the Manager of the Audit and Risk Branch, the successful candidate will build and maintain strong relationships across the EPS and support optimal achievement of strategic and operational goals by:
- Facilitating risk workshops to assist EPS in identifying, prioritizing, mitigating, and monitoring risks.
- Assisting in the identification of appropriate, proactive risk mitigation strategies.
- Supporting the development and maintenance of risk registers across the EPS.
- Developing reports to the Edmonton Police Commission and the Chief of Police on top corporate risks and associated mitigation strategies.
- Continuously identifying opportunities to enhance risk identification and management processes.
- Planning and performing internal audits to assess compliance to policy, legislation, and standards and to identify opportunities to improve quality and efficiency of processes/services.
- Identifying and recommending governance, risk management, process and control enhancements to ensure EPS’ continued ability to demonstrate accountability.
- Monitoring and reporting on the implementation of audit recommendations.
- Through partnerships across the EPS, identifying opportunities for value-add advisory engagements.
- Assessing opportunities to leverage data analytics and other tools to more effectively and efficiently perform audit and advisory engagements.
- Researching emerging audit and risk-related issues, trends and methodologies to assess the impact on the EPS and maintaining knowledge of EPS operations and controls to conduct high quality, risk-based audits.
Qualifications
- University degree with a focus on Finance, Accounting or Business.
- Chartered Professional Accountant designation.
- A minimum of six (6) years of experience in audit, advisory, and/or risk management.
- Experience in policing services would be considered an asset.
- Professional accreditation in internal audit, risk management, and data analytics would be considered an asset (e.g. Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA), Canadian Risk Management Designation (CRM), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE)).
- Other relevant expertise or designations, such as MBA, and/or CISA with knowledge of COSO, ISO, and COBIT frameworks would also be considered an asset.

- As part of your pre-hire screening, you will be required to complete an Enhanced Security Clearance. Should you accept employment with the Edmonton Police Service you acknowledge and agree to participate in future Enhanced Security Re-Clearances at scheduled intervals or in any other circumstances, exigent or otherwise, as required by Human Resources Division.
Hours of Work:
33.75 hours per week Monday – Friday. Hours of work may be subject to the terms and conditions of a variable hour of work program.Salary Range:
21M, Salary Grade: 033, $54.49 – $68.83 (Hourly), $3,678.50 – $4,646.30 (Bi-Weekly), $96,008 – $121,268 (Annually). The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.General:
