We are recruiting for an AVP to lead and build a new team focused on Construction, Mining and Renewable Energy. The leader will establish and guide our business footprint in this unique complex risk space.As an industry expert and leader, the AVP Construction, Mining and Renewable Energy will be accountable to shape the creation of this new complex risk team and drive brand awareness and profitable growth through quality underwriting of Large and Multinational Construction, Mining and Renewable Energy business. As the leader of this unique team, you are accountable to collaborate with external broker partners, customers and internal partners to identify new business opportunities and to provide superior technical expertise to brokers and customers to price the risk appropriately.What You’ll DoBuild an industry focused brand and team focused on the Construction, Mining and Renewable Energy industry sectors.Drive a focus in this sophisticated risk space and lead a team to qualify and underwrite account deals through understanding needs and risk characteristics of the customer, ensuring benefit from both top-line and profitability perspective.Build and maintain relationships across different teams and with external partners, in order to provide outstanding service to brokers and customers.Help shape and guide our Construction, Mining and Renewable Energy guidelines and strategy.Maintain the quality and profitability of the portfolio, and refer all risks outside established authority level to a Specialist.Help identify areas of concern regarding loss ratios, risk trends, or other discrepancies, applying remediation strategies as appropriate.Build knowledge of all Information Systems/Programs within Commercial Insurance.Participate in Quality Reviews and audits as the need arises.Support maintenance of a compliant UW environment in relation to guidelines and rules.What You’ll Bring10 + years experience in the insurance industry as a commercial lines’ underwriter, leader, or broker with experience in Construction, Mining and Renewable Energy, or specialization in one of the 3 industry sectorsPost-secondary education (Business or related field) or equivalent practical experienceExperience in underwriting or broking Construction, Mining and Renewable Energy industry sector businessCIP/FCIP preferredStrong knowledge of P&C underwriting, pricing and product in various segmentsWorking knowledge of other functional areas (i.e. Claims, Risk Management, Accounting, etc.).Strong level of understanding of underwriting philosophy, policy contracts, rating programs, risk information sources, underwriting/technical manual information, statuary constraints, and computer workflow procedures.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, RTM, Commercial systems and other related systems.Ability to interact in a professional manner to develop long-term relationships with brokers and customers.Ability to work with internal business partners to deliver a phenomenal broker and customer experience.Ability to be self-motivated and proactively pursue potential business opportunities with brokers and customers.Ability to listen to broker and customer needs in order to effectively and efficiently meet them.What You’ll GetCompetitive rewards package including base compensation, eligibility for annual bonus, retirement savings, share plan, health benefits, personal wellness, and volunteer opportunities.Exceptional Career Development opportunities.We’ll support your professional development education.Hybrid work model.Additional InformationAviva Canada is committed to providing accommodations for people with disabilities during all phases of the hiring process including the application process.
