Applicants are encouraged to self-identify on their electronic application.Under the direction of the Division Captain, the Bunker Gear/Warehouse Technician is responsible for the maintenance, inspection, and repairs of all bunker gear within HRFE; and conducts and maintains an inventory of spare bunker gear cache.The Bunker Gear/Warehouse Technician assists with the timely shipping, receiving, distribution, and stocking of various inventory assets and commodities including specialized service materials, hazardous materials, general goods, bulk items, and surplus assets. The Bunker Gear/Warehouse Technician acts in a manner that supports and promotes the mission, vision, and values of HRFE.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops specifications and makes recommendations for purchase agreements for bunker gear and other firefighter personal protective equipment and supplies.
  • Conducts advanced inspections and cleaning of bunker gear to always confirm safe use in accordance with NFPA Standards.
  • Shipping and receiving of supplies and equipment to/from vendors. Inspect and verify incoming goods against packing slips or invoices, record and report discrepancies and damaged goods.
  • Loads and unloads trucks.
  • General housekeeping of warehouse. Optimize available space, physically relocating materials as required.
  • Maintains inventory control systems to track the issuance, repair, and storage of bunker gear, personal protective equipment, and supplies. Assist the Division Captain with the coordination for the disposal of surplus equipment.
  • Assists in the coordination and implementation of the Respiratory Protection Program for face piece fit testing.
  • Responsible for workplace safety as outlined in the Nova Scotia Occupational Health & Safety Act and organizational policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Using proper safety procedures and required protective equipment to operate forklift, pallet jacks, picking carts, cutting tools, etc.
  • Responsible for other duties assigned as appropriate to the function and responsibilities of the position.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Must have a Class 3 Driver’s License with Air Brake Endorsement, and ability to obtain a Class 1 License upon hire.
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods, WHMIS, First Aid & CPR-C Certifications.
  • Forklift Certification is considered an asset. Must attain certification within 3 months and demonstrate proficiency.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of warehousing experience in shipping, receiving, distribution, and inventory management.
  • Previous experience using commercial grade sewing machines is considered an asset. Must be able to achieve qualifications within 3 months of hire.
  • Certification in the repair and advanced inspection of Structural Fire Fighting Bunker Gear is considered an asset. Must be able to achieve qualifications within 3 months of hire.

Technical /Job Specific Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of operational clothing repair.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NFPA 1851 Standard on Selection, Care, and Maintenance of Protection Ensembles for Structural Fire Fighting and Proximity Fire Fighting
  • Experience with a Computerized Inventory Management System, as well as basic PC applications (Microsoft Excel, Spreadsheet)
  • Supply Chain Management experience relating to the shipping and receiving of goods, including proper receiving procedures and experience completing shipping documents/Bills of Lading.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare written forms and reports with clarity and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of Windows based software applications, specifically Microsoft Office and File Data Management (FDM).
  • Thorough knowledge of safety and fire service standards such as NFPA, ULC, CSA and labor laws.
