Job title: CAN Property Accountant

Job description: Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe job duties listed are typical examples of the work performed by positions in this job classification. Not all duties assigned to every position are included, nor is it expected that all positions will be assigned every duty.

  • Perform complex accounting functions for a large portfolio of properties, which includes Monthly Financial Statement preparation, Budget Input, Loan Calculation, Special Assessment Budget and Reconciliation, annual WCB, quarterly/annual GST filing and YE T2/NPO returns, various investment account maintenance;
  • Liaise with Community Manager to ensure that the financial information is accurate and assisting the Community Manager with any financial inquiries from the Boards;
  • Responsible for the daily accounting operations for assigned properties;
  • Complete general ledger entries and manage cash balances;
  • Analyze the general ledger and ensure it is accurate and balanced;
  • Research and analyze financial data for internal and external clients; creates, organizes and maintains files;

  • Practice and adhere to FirstService Residential Global Service Standards.
  • Conduct business at all times with the highest standards of personal, professional and ethical conduct.
  • Perform or assist with any operations as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules. Notify supervision of unusual equipment or operating problems and the need for additional material and supplies.
  • May participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, policies, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Ensure all safety precautions are followed while performing the work.
  • Follow all policies and Standard Operating Procedures as instructed by Management.
  • Perform any range of special projects, tasks and other related duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • Business degree or equivalent. Working towards an accounting designation is an asset.
  • Advanced-level analytical and financial skills
  • Experience in a fast paced – customer focused organization
  • Experience in full cycle accounting
  • Although training is provided, knowledge of condominiums, property management or real estate would be considered a definite asset.
