For more information, visit .Role ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Construction Manager, the Construction Engineer takes a lead role in the coordination, review and administration of engineering consultants to complete design, tendering and construction of highway projects throughout the Peace Region while ensuring projects are delivered in accordance with national codes, Department guidelines, current standards, policies, and technical and functional requirements. You will also provide assistance in the planning and programming of the Department projects. You will be responsible for the administration of Consultant Engineering Agreements and provide the knowledge and expertise necessary to assist with the management of construction projects within a safe work environment, ensuring that they are delivered within scope, cost, time, and quality.The position requires a broad knowledge of highway engineering with a thorough understanding of design standards, construction administration and practices, the right of way acquisition process, utility coordination, regulations applied by the transportation industry, environment regulators, and Departmental policies and guidelines. You will assist with the delivery of the Department’s “in-house” design, tender and project management initiatives. Duties also will include monitoring consultants and contractors through regular inspections of construction projects to ensure compliance with safety and quality specifications, participating in the preliminary and planning processes, and recommending solutions to problems concerning major changes in construction procedures.This opportunity will excite you, challenge you and broaden your skills and experience as you work on high profile projects within the region.   • Registered or eligible to obtain membership with APEGA
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Extensive project management skills

The following will be considered assets:

  • Experience with publicly funded transportation projects
  • Experience leading a project team with Engineering Consultants and contractors
  • Contract administration experience

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
