Provide overall administrative and technical expertise and support for a large or complex construction project or an area of a mega project. Accountable for safety, budget, quality, schedule, and profitability performance. Oversee project personnel operations and maintain excellent stakeholder relationships.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESProject Initiation & Planning
- Lead to secure new work by participating as part of preconstruction team to contribute to estimate, proposal, and/or presentation
- Provide input on scheduling, design, commercial, legal and strategic meetings
- Read and understand obligations and responsibilities under the Prime Contract, and disseminate to the project team
- Participate, prepare and review tenders and contracts to achieve advantageous outcomes for a construction project while mitigating risks
- Review all Sub-Contract Agreements to ensure they have been prepared in accordance with company guidelines
- Prepare and review “Authority to Let” forms for the construction project to ensure the tender process has been thorough and in accordance with company guidelines, and the let amount is within our budget allowance
- Attend and chair handover meetings from the estimating team to the site delivery team
Project Execution and Control
- Oversee the development and dissemination of the Construction Management Plan to the team
- Ensure/Oversee the project is constructed as per design, budget, quality, and schedule
- Oversee the development and implementation of quality management plan and quality culture with stakeholder buy-in
- Review and assess new drawing submissions, administer change control procedures
- Manage and oversee shop drawing submittal tacker to ensure critical path packages are reviewed within the required timeframes
- Provide strategic overview of design and document management process
- Ensure all project related documentation and correspondence is channelled via Procore
- Oversee change management process and manage large changes and disputes
- Manage change orders, coordinating with trades, processing, and assessing cost and schedule impacts, including for more complex estimates
- Chair weekly client meetings and subcontractor coordination meetings and lead internal meetings
- Manage the insurance needs of a construction project, including public liability, professional indemnity and contract works
- Prepare and tracks progress claims and estimates on more complex scopes
- Advise Assistant Project Managers, Project Coordinators and Administrators on administration aspects including tendering and contract administration
- Administer the contract and report in line with Project Administration Manual (PAM)
- Continually and critically monitor all aspects of a construction project and determine the risk profile; determination strategies and actions to mitigate risks by way of a risk register
- Continually monitor and review the construction schedule and report risks and opportunities and provide periodic updates
- Facilitate the resolution of disputes
Project Closeout
- Develop and oversee overall project closeout, including document archival, maintenance and warranty manuals, deficiencies, and warranty work
- Oversee pre-commissioning or commissioning and closeout

General
- Stay current with industry practices; seek new, innovative construction methods and initiatives and influences industry
- Understand labour relations and market implications
- Ensure all owner, client, and project policies, procedures, and standards are followed
- Critically evaluate information from company operations and support departments and challenges the process as needed
- Supervise project team members including conducting annual reviews, coaching and discussions around career development
- Collaborate with other departments (Legal, Estimating, Finance, etc.) to ensure that project needs are fulfilled in a timely manner
Safety
- Support H&S team in ensuring that safety documentation is as per Ministry of Labour and Multiplex requirements
- Create and influence safety culture as a mentor and model. Prepared to participate in safety committee and influences corporate safety policy and procedures
- Conduct job site tours and safety inspections and lead by example to ensure that policies, procedures, environmental programs and safety standards are followed
- Identify risk areas, and develop and implements mitigation plans
- Ensure that Inspection Test Plans are implemented and maintained per company guidelines
Procurement & Finance
- Manage projects overall procurement tracker to ensure work packages are in place in advance of site works and submittals being required
- Advise Superintendents and project teams on the administration, risk and profitability aspects of a construction project
- Manage and report construction budgets, prepare forecasts and cash flows
- Regularly review project spending against budget line items to ensure overages are prevented
- Prepare and present the monthly project review dashboards to the business leadership team
- Assist with preparing and reviewing monthly client reports including the Client Monthly Budget Review
- Oversee project reporting procedure setup (e.g. labour, material, cost reports, site office procedures, and document control)
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- 10-15 years of progressive construction experience as a leader and mentor preferred
- Bachelor Degree or College Diploma in a relevant field
- Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred
- CCA Gold Seal strongly preferred
- CaGBC LEED ® Accredited Professional considered an asset
- Professional Membership in CIQS considered an asset
- Estimating or related experience would be an asset
- Up-to-date Safety Certifications (e.g. Working at Heights, Fall Protection, H&S Awareness) preferred
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Extensive background in commercial and residential construction techniques, as well as contract administration, claims production and dispute resolution
- Experience with project management and/or scheduling software (Procore)
- Proven ability to handle a fast-paced work environment and enjoy working collaboratively and cross-functionally
- Ability to adapt to change quickly and be flexible in meeting competing deadlines
- Strong knowledge of the market including costs of labour and resources as well as the product market
- Proven ability to communicate efficiently and effectively lead teams
- Experience supervising a small team of employees (1-2) and up to 20 trades
