Job description: Controller ConsultantOur Calgary client is currently seeking an experienced Controller to join their team. A successful candidate will be responsible for managing financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and ensuring compliance with all accounting principles and regulations, specifically focusing on Work-in-Progress (WIP) and the percentage of completion method. This is a 3-month contract role.Your success will be defined by your ability to:

• Prepare and analyze accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
• Develop and maintain financial dashboards and key performance indicators (KPIs)
• Manage bank reconciliations
• Oversee cash flow planning and management
• Release of vendor and subcontractor payments via cheque or EFT
• Manage banking relationships and optimize cash utilization
• Collaborate closely with the Project Accountant to ensure accurate project costing, billing, and revenue recognition
• Supervise, mentor, and support the professional development of the Accounting team
• Prepare and file GST returns and income tax installment payments
• Liaise with external stakeholders and clients to maintain strong working relationships
• Proactively identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy
• Provide financial insights and strategic recommendations to support business growth and decision-making

Your strengths include:

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field, CPA designation is a plus
• 10+ years of progressive experience in financial management, with at least 5 years in a Controller or similar leadership role.
• Proven experience in the construction industry is essential.
• Strong expertise in Work-in-Progress (WIP) accounting and the percentage of completion method is mandatory.
• In-depth knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
• Proficiency with accounting software Acumatica would be beneficial
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
