Job description: Job DescriptionOur client is a diverse and growing leader in the fuel industry with a commitment to sustainable and responsible business practices. With a driven, professional, and cohesive team that is able adapt to their continually changing industry landscapes, they are seeking a Controller to join them in St. John’s, Newfoundland. This is a permanent role, ideal for a strategic team leader with IFRS experience.Key Responsibilities for the Job:

  • Preparation of financial statements
  • Cash flow analysis
  • Forecasting and budgeting
  • Coordinate quarterly reviews and year-end audit with firms
  • Assist with month-end and year-end processes
  • Contribute to the development of accounting policies and internal controls
  • Review financial data periodically to ensure completeness and accuracy
  • Lead the activities of the finance department and oversee staff
  • Develop strategic performance metrics and targets inline with company goals
  • Special project accounting as required

Skills & Attributes for Success:

  • Professional accredited accounting designation in addition to a completed undergraduate degree in accounting, finance or business/commerce
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a senior accounting role(s) with supervisory experience
  • Previous experience in the oil and gas industry is an asset
  • Enthusiastic, driven individual with the ability to take initiative in a team environment and contribute to the company’s overall success
  • Up to date knowledge of accounting systems, software, and government regulations
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accepted accounting rules, practices, tax laws, and reporting requirements
  • Previous experience with performance management within a finance department
  • Well developed coaching and leadership skills, both on a formal and informal basis
  • Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret goals, objectives, and policies
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills
