Job description: Our Calgary Head Office is seeking an experienced Controller to support assigned operating companies. This is a full-time, in office position.Description:
Reporting to the Presidents, this position leads the Finance & Administration team for Executive Flight Centre Developments (2020) Ltd. and Aviation Ground Fueling Technologies (2020) Ltd. They will provide full and appropriate financial management information and strategic support including budgeting, forecasting, and capital requests and be responsible to critically evaluate on-going performance, efficiency, and reporting.Responsibilities:

  • Manage the preparation and presentation of the financial statements for each company.
  • Lead and prepare the forecasting and budgeting process for each company.
  • Responsible for the overall audit and tax planning process.
  • Manage financing/banking, surety, insurance, and IT Support relationships.
  • Manage all corporate tax matters, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations.
  • Work to build and improve the overall financial operations of both companies.
  • Ensure financial strategy and company transactions protect the shareholders interests.
  • Build reporting models to allow senior management to make better decisions.
  • Oversee the monthly job cost report process with the President and Managers for use in creating and updating contract schedules and updated WIP reports for internal and external use.
  • Participate in the on-going strategic planning with leadership team. Perform due diligence and create projections with different scenarios on growth opportunities as necessary.
  • Develop and track key financial and operational metrics.
  • Analyze expenses to ensure costs have been on-charged to customers as required.
  • Supervise, develop, and mentor team members.
  • Manage cash flow.
  • Oversee and approve payroll processing.
  • Create, maintain, and submit sensitive invoices.
  • Prepare and review general ledger entries and reconciliations.
  • Maintain and oversee general ledger management.
  • Review and approve vendor set-up/changes.
  • Payment run and bank reconciliation review and approval.
  • Coordination of month end closing procedure and schedule.
  • Establish and enforce proper accounting methods, policies, and principles.
  • Maintain, enhance and design internal controls and processes.
  • Maintain ERP and payroll systems and assist in creation of automated reporting; assess all departments in terms of using the ERP effectively.
  • Maintain a tidy and orderly work area exhibiting pride in work performance and contributing to a healthy and safe work environment.
  • Ensure exceptional, courteous, and respectful customer service.
  • Ensure adherence of corporate, departmental, and OH&S policies and procedures.
  • Perform any other duties as required.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Professional designated accountant (CPA: CA/CMA/CGA) or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 10 years work experience as a Controller, Accounting Manager or similar role.
  • Advanced computer skills with Microsoft Office, specifically Excel, accounting software and databases.
  • Experience in the following areas will be considered assets:

o Property Management Company
o Construction Company
o Goods Reseller Company
o Microsoft Dynamics NAV or Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central software
o Jet Reports

  • Proven ability to prepare and deliver presentations at the executive level both internal and external (banks/insurance/surety) as needed.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to communicate with team members at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships and function effectively in teams.
  • Excellent time management, organizational, and prioritization skills, with a high attention to detail.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong relationship building skills and ability to function effectively in teams.
  • Self-motivated and self-directed with a demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work with competing priorities and to strict deadlines.
  • Able to work collaboratively as a productive member of the EFC Team.
