Job description: Corporate AccountantOur client is looking for a Corporate Accountant to join their team in Calgary. The successful candidate will work with the Director, Finance and be responsible in supporting accurate and timely internal financial reporting to managers/ executives. This is a key role within the company that will help with the smooth running of accounting tasks. The ideal candidate will have a keen sense of curiosity and an ability to research, analyze data and explain numbers.Your success will be defined by your ability to:

  • Work with partners and staff to ensure that customers are invoiced in a complete and timely manner, payable invoices are entered, timesheets are completed in a timely manner, payroll is completed, and the accuracy of general ledger is maintained.
  • Maintain accounting records and ensure financial control policies are adhered to.
  • Prepare monthly general and administrative journal entries and analysis.
  • Upload data to ADP Workforce to process and review bi-weekly payroll and ensure completeness/ accuracy of time entry; remit withholdings to CRA within deadlines.
  • Create and maintain monthly accounting tasks calendar; ensure that timelines are being adhered to and communicated to managers.
  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations at month end; advise and assist Director of Finance on potential complex accounting matters that need to be documented to ensure compliance with ASPE
  • Complete monthly GST and WCB returns.
  • Maintain capital asset subledgers; work with Director, Finance, operations and IT to ensure accuracy of and completeness of capital assets.
  • Assist with AR collection calls as needed.
  • Work with the Director, Finance to process and complete financial year-end accounting entries and preparation of year-end working papers for auditor.
  • Ensure compliance with all government and CRA reporting/filing requirements.
  • Build strong working relationships with operations, IT, internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop/ update and report on a set of operational accounting KPI’s using the Nectari dashboard platform.
  • Uphold ethical standards and integrity in financial reporting and business practices.
  • Ad-hoc projects as required.

Your strengths include:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; completion of CPA would be advantageous.
  • A minimum of 4 -7 years experience in management accounting and financial reporting.
  • Experience using OpenInvoice, Sage Intacct ERP, ADP Workforce, Nexonia
  • Knowledge of provincial payroll legislation and systems.
  • An understanding of personal income tax, EI, CPP and CRA rules an asset.
  • Expert to Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel; proficient in use of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Excellent professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills in order to build relationships with management team, internal stakeholders, and staff.
  • Self-starter, driven and motivated to work independently with little oversight; ability to develop and implement strategies, with the ability to problem solve and provide solutions. A solution focused approach.
