We treat people respectfully, entrust them to be their best and take every opportunity to ensure they feel part of our community.About the Role:As an Accountant, you will play an integral part in preparing and assisting within the Finance function for ATCO Electric Yukon, a division of ATCO Electric, servicing twelve communities in the Yukon. The Accountant is responsible for month-end and year-end close processes, financial statement preparation, monthly operational reports preparation, as well as gathering budgeting and forecasting inputs to support strategic decision making.What You Get to Do:
- Using knowledge of GAAP and IFRS, assist in providing management with a wide variety of meaningful, accurate and timely financial information and reports
- Review the monthly Administrative & General (A&G) and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) accounts
- Prepare balance sheets and bank reconciliations, cash forecasts, and GST filings
- Arrange quarterly audit packs, working closely with internal controls and external auditors
- Complete month-end journal entries and reversals
- Generate monthly Management Reports, as well as O&M variance explanations and forecast
- Prepare and review the month end affiliate accounting and billings transactions
- Analyze and investigate unusual financial results including deviations from budget and forecast
- Provide insights and recommendations based on historical data and trends
- Recommend improvements in the workflow process of the O&M business plan
- Assist with General Rate Application materials
What You Bring:
- Undergraduate degree in Business, Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field
- A professional Canadian accounting designation (CPA) with a minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience
- Understanding of the end-to-end accounting cycle
- Experience in a fast-paced commercial environment with demonstrated success in managing multiple tasks within constrained timelines
- Proven ability to interact and communicate effectively with team members, auditors, senior leadership and other business units
- Strong MS Office skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
- Experience with consolidation & reporting software (Oracle, FCCS, Workiva) is an asset
- Knowledge of utility-specific rules and regulations is advantageous
- Exceptional analytical skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Critical thinking and professional judgement to ensure a high quality of work
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
- Collaborative team player with an ability to also work independently
