Job description: Job Description:Our client in Calgary seeking a skilled Cost Accountant to join their finance team. In this role, you will be responsible for analyzing and reporting on the costs associated with oil and gas operations, providing valuable insights to support strategic decision-making. The ideal candidate will have experience working with JDE (JD Edwards), intermediate Excel skills, and a background in the oil and gas industry.Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and report on the costs associated with oil and gas production, drilling, and exploration activities.
  • Prepare and maintain cost reports, variance analyses, and financial forecasts to support operational decision-making.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, procurement, and finance, to gather relevant cost data and ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Monitor and reconcile inventory and cost of goods sold accounts to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of cost accounting policies, procedures, and controls to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Utilize JDE (JD Edwards) and intermediate Excel skills to extract, manipulate, and analyze large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies.
  • Participate in month-end and year-end close processes, including the preparation of journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statements.
  • Support ad hoc financial analysis and special projects as assigned by management.

Requirements:Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Cost Accountant or similar role, preferably in the oil and gas industry.
  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation is preferred.
  • Proficiency in JDE (JD Edwards) or similar ERP systems is required.
  • Intermediate Excel skills, including the ability to create and manipulate spreadsheets, analyze data, and generate reports.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices, particularly as they relate to cost accounting and inventory valuation in the oil and gas industry.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Available to start immediately.
