Your future starts now at Empower Simcoe!We are recruiting for a full-time Developmental Support Worker – Specialized, to work as a Specialized Resource Coordinator providing quality support to high-need individuals residing in the Treatment Home and Specialized Resource locations. This position provides guidance and direct support in areas identified as necessary related to activities of daily living, personal care, communication, emotional, physical and mental health, safety, finances, and relationship development to foster independence.Compensation package:

  • Work up to 42 hours per week, working 12-hour day shifts;
  • Required to work weekends and public holidays as scheduled;
  • Minimum starting rate of pay is $28.73 per hour;

Following the successful completion of a 3-month probationary period:

Minimum requirements for this position include:

  • Community College Diploma in Social Services or a closely related field from an acceptable accredited college. Educational focus in Behavioural Sciences, Psychology, Police Foundations, Child and Youth Worker, Developmental Services Worker, Social Services Worker, etc.;
  • Registered Behavioural Technician certificate an asset;
  • Minimum of one (1) year recent full-time work experience supporting hard to serve adults with complex care needs in community residential settings;
  • Experience supporting people with behaviour management techniques is an asset;
  • Demonstrated ability to respond calmly in crisis situations through various approved verbal de-escalation and physical intervention techniques.

Special factors of this position:

  • Must be prepared to work flexible hours as required;
  • Position requires considerable physical interventions involving frequent bending, turning, twisting, and kneeling in response to crisis behaviour;
  • Possess valid Class G driver’s license and own reliable transportation to be used in the course of employment;

Duties and responsibilities (including, but not limited to):

  • Works as part of a team, collaborates with team members to meet collective goals, and recognizes contributions of others;
  • Provide daily support for people in their homes and community by using an approach that respects their independent choices and abilities. This support includes, but is not limited to, personal care and hygiene, meal preparation and housekeeping;
  • In collaboration with Supervisor, assess individuals needs and develop plans to support the person to enhance essential life skills, such as meal preparation, budgeting, communication, self-care, community participation and employment.
  • Play a vital role in the completion of Ministerial Licensing, acting to ensure that documentation and all required interactions with Ministry representatives;
  • Fully participate in team meetings to provide input into and get clarification of all plans and related protocols;
  • Provide quality supports based on a person’s behaviour support plan to meet the physical, medical, and emotional needs of individuals, i.e.: doctor’s appointments, medical reviews;
  • Foster the independence of those supported in the program and actively participate in planning for people supported and their families;
  • Completing all required documentation in a timely and effective manner;
  • Administering medications and documenting medication dispensing in accordance with the Agency’s policies and procedures;
  • Facilitating family participation in individuals’ life;
  • Supporting people with their budgeting, banking and purchases as may be requested or required and completing necessary Agency documentation. Being accountable and responsible for Agency monies spent, e.g. groceries, supplies, petty cash;
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of standards and ability to apply verbal de-escalation, personal safety and physical intervention and crisis management techniques as outlined in NVCI training;
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding to ensure implementation of all safety protocols for each person supported ensuring the health and safety of people supported, staff, visitors, and community;
