In an exciting time of change and transformation in CPG, this role is critical in shifting the organization to embrace collaborative and progressive contracting models. You will provide strategic direction and management of commercial decision-making for the business unit, coordinate commercial leadership across the corporation and provide strategic and commercial advice to support the implementation of, and adherence to progressive, collaborative contract models.What will I be doing?
- Lead the development and implementation of Commercial Management strategies for the Capital Projects Group Union Station Delivery team.
- Manage and oversee the implementation and ongoing administration of new and existing contracts required to support Commercial and Delivery teams.
- Provide strategic direction and management of commercial decision-making, coordinate commercial leadership, and provide strategic and commercial advice to the VP Commercial Management, Senior Legal Counsel, Senior Management Team (SMT), and other Metrolinx leaders, as appropriate, to support the implementation of, and adherence to, Commercial Management plans.
- Drive to achieve best value for money, meeting strategic objectives in a high profile, rapidly evolving and competitive environment while improving the customer experience and upholding Metrolinx’s behaviours and values.
- Manage and provide overall direction to the team during a time of change, including defining team member roles, responsibilities, and expectations; ensure timely feedback to ensure a cohesive operational unit and the optimum use of team skills.
- Along with the VP and EVP Commercial Management, is responsible for the financial health of the organization and stewardship of financial and other resources within the business unit; oversees all contract activities and contracts for value for money.
- Effectively deals with significant commercial issues, including complex engineering and operational challenges to ensure the completion of key projects and strategies; facilitate collaboration and cooperation between stakeholders and external vendors to ensure project delivery and issues resolution.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
- Completion of a degree in Finance, Accounting, Audit, Business Administration, Commercial Management, or a related discipline or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent; Graduate level degree is an asset.
- Knowledge of progressive contracts and collaborative contracting models.
- Demonstrated experience in a public transportation development, operational and/or construction environment with experience and measured success in the application of commercial management methodology in the context of multi-million-dollar projects; experience in the transportation industry and public sector is an asset.
- Chartered Management Accountant (CMA) or similar professional accreditation an asset.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, procedures, professional or technical practices and precedents (e.g., Metrolinx Act, Places to Grow Act, Planning Act).
- Knowledge of regulatory, legislation, building codes, legal, and financial issues and government bodies, external agencies, and partnering transit organizations involved in developing public transportation systems, knowledge of construction engineering principles and best practices.
- Advanced skills in the development and communication of the best practices for the application of contract administration policies and procedures.
- Highly developed written communication skills to develop briefs and presentations for executive management with a clear and succinct definition of the issues, identifying a priority ranking of issues and providing well-researched and concise answers to anticipated questions; to prepare strategy documents and issue reports.
- Strong verbal communication/consultation skills to facilitate a balance between consultation versus informing of external stakeholders.
