Job description: What you’ll doAccountable for overseeing the project management of all new construction and/or tenant improvement projects for Canadian Tire Retail and its ancillary brands (Canadian Tire Petroleum, Party City, Pro Hockey Life, Part Source, Third Party CRU’s). Ensure that projects are completed within the required design parameters, on time, and on budget. As the Director of Construction, you will provide day-to-day leadership to the Eastern Canada (Quebec & Atlantic) construction team, with several Project Managers reporting directly to you.Take accountability for regional annual project pipeline, budget, schedule, quality, and stakeholder relationsLead your team in the regional design and construction execution of renovations (~$1-$2M), building expansions ($10-$15M), and new ground-up stores ($30M+)Guide the project management team throughout major capital projects, from due diligence to pre-construction, design development, tendering, and executionFoster a culture of teamwork and collaboration with cross-functional internal stakeholders (Store Planning, Operations, Real Estate) as well as end users (Dealers). Demonstrate a proven focus on developing and implementing processes and rigor.Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously while maintaining high standards of quality and efficiency.Track record of successfully delivering projects on time, within budget, and in accordance with design parameters.Lead in resolving disputes with GC’s, tradespeople, and professionals.Facilitate effective communication among all stakeholders including senior leaders, Dealers, project team leads, consultants, vendors, contractors, landlords, security personnel, and other relevant parties.Drive strategic initiatives related to construction optimization and value engineering alongside your regional counterparts, the estimating team, and the real estate team.Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, providing strategic recommendations and insights on construction-related matters.Take responsibility for managing Health and Safety requirements on projects related to Owner/Sponsor responsibilities.Ensure regular auditing of projects to ensure compliance with standards and quality control.What you bringMinimum of 8 years’ experience in leadership roles focused on retail design and construction. Demonstrate significant tenure at well-managed companies with a track record of success.The ideal candidate will have substantial experience in medium to large format ground-up retail builds.Possess 3 years’ leadership/management experience with a strong inclination towards team building, coaching, and mentoring.Experience working for a large retail owner operator, landlord and within a franchise/dealer model is an assetAbility to effectively manage competing priorities in a team-oriented environment.Capable of planning and managing at both tactical and operational levels while maintaining a hands-on approach to getting things done.Demonstrated ability to build teams and recruit, motivate, develop, and retain staff.Excellent communication skills with proficiency in written and verbal English.
