Job description: Aplin has partnered with our Saskatchewan-based client to recruit a Director of Finance based in Saskatoon, SK. Under the direct authority of the COO, the Director of Finance is tasked with providing unwavering leadership and guidance to the organization and supporting the management of a robust annual operating budget. It is imperative that the Director of Finance fosters and sustains effective partnerships, collaborates extensively, and ensures seamless alignment across all aspects of the government. Moreover, the incumbent must uphold stringent fiscal accountability standards for the department, meticulously overseeing operational efficiency while ensuring compliance with internal financial controls and external funding agreements.This permanent full-time position, situated in Saskatoon, SK, carries significant responsibility for safeguarding the organization’s financial integrity and operational efficacy.Responsibilities:
- Provide senior leadership strategic financial compliance, policy, and results guidance.
- Support the organization in implementing the annual strategic plan, work plans, and operational and capital budgets.
- Provide leadership in financial accounting systems and risk assessment strategies.
- Lead the production of timely and accurate management reports and strategize the resolution of complex financial, accounting, and departmental issues.
- Regularly review all financial and accounting systems to ensure compliance with established policies, procedures, and funding agreements.
- Provide oversight and leadership for budget development, financial planning, and reporting within the government.
- Collaborate with all departments to implement financial policies and processes.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate financial, legal, and reputational risks.
- Contribute to enhancing data collection processes, including database development for program delivery.
- Oversee the development of operational plans, fiscal responsibility, and the establishment of relevant policies and procedures.
- Lead short and long-term strategic planning for the department, including work plan development.
- Lead the finance department overseeing staff, workflows, and managing day-to-day activities for the Finance team.
- Provide leadership and support to conduct performance planning evaluations and reviews.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in finance or a related field.
- A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is required.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in a senior-level finance or accounting position.
- Proficient in finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles.
- Proven track record in program funding and budget development.
- Extensive experience with financial administration systems.
Knowledge and skills:
- Experience working in a Métis and/or First Nations culture.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent time-management, organizational, and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to prioritize daily tasks effectively.
- Resilient in dealing with changing schedules, timelines, and financial priorities.
- Adaptable to shifts in environmental or organizational priorities.
- Willingness to work both independently and within a team environment.
