Our commitment is to provide the people we serve with programs that maximize progress and independence, support unique strengths and qualities, and encourage integration into the community.The PositionThe disability services worker (DSW), under supervision of his/her supervisor, facilitates and monitors education and development programs for purposes of providing individuals in service with physical, behavioural, emotional and social supports/supervision in residence and in the community. Disability service workers develop relationships and act as a liaison with the community, family members, guardians and employers. This position reports to the team leader.This position requires union membership with CUPE 1099.An additional $3.30 per hour will be paid when supporting complex needs clients. This additional amount does not apply to scheduled trainings/meetings and non-complex shifts.Scheduling:
One (1) permanent, full-time position working an average of 42 hours per week;

• 12 hour day shifts 0700-1900 on a two week rotation
• Week 1:Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday
• Week 2:Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday

In Your Role You Will

• Support individuals to build life skills and social/occupational skills, independence and encourage participation and social interaction within the community.
• Teach/assist the client with daily household tasks (food preparation, laundry, cleaning, etc) and light personal care (grooming, dental care, bathing)
• Drive individual in your own vehicle to appointments, day programs, community events, etc..
• Contribute toward design, implementation and evaluation of individual service plans, program specific policies & procedures.
• Communicate/document information that relates to program changes/service recipient changes to peers, ministry representatives and other stakeholders as required.
• Observe/document needs of individuals in service.

*** Prior to confirmation of employment, all applicants must provide a copy of a current Criminal Record Check and/or Government Screening Letter. These checks vary depending on province and sector and will be communicated by the Program Hiring Team.As An Ideal Candidate You Possess

• 2 years experience supporting individuals with high behaviors, autism, FASD, developmental disabilities, mental health concerns, trauma, etc.
• High School Diploma/GED
• Valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle (for transporting clients)
• First Aid/CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification (NVCI or CPI)
• Skills in assisting individuals in anger management, daily living, self help, etc.
• Will receive training in Medication Administration, Abuse Protocol, Proactive Procedures and Behavioural Strategies, Suicide Prevention, etc.
• Previous experience with autism, complex behaviours, and high behaviour supports is an asset.
• Working experience with sign language is an asset.
