This individual smokes/vapes within the residence.Challenging behaviours may occur on a daily basis therefore, only applicants with well-developed de-escalation techniques and high behaviours/complex needs skills will be interviewed.The PositionThe Disability Services Worker (DSW), under supervision of their supervisor, facilitates and monitors education and development programs for purposes of providing individuals in service with physical, behavioural, emotional and social supports/supervision in residence and in the community. DSWs develop relationships and act as a liaison with the community, family members, guardians and employers. This position reports to the Team Leader. During overnight hours (2000 to 0800), the DSW assists with aids to daily living including personal care, toileting, dental hygiene, healthy eating, etc. The awake night shift worker will ensure a consistent, healthy and safe environment for persons in care and provide immediate support in crisis situations.Scheduling:
One (1) permanent, full-time position that will 12hr overnight awake shifts, 2000-0800 on a 2-week rotation. The 2-week rotation will require weekend scheduling, every other weekend.

In Your Role You Will

  • Completes time sheets and related HR/Payroll documents within assigned timeframes.
  • Follows direction, actively participates in the program team and contributes toward goal planning for the program.
  • Attends meetings and/or training as scheduled and required.
  • Assists and supports individuals with developing and achieving personal goals.
  • Ensures individuals basic needs are met, i.e., hygiene, personal care, life skills and social/occupational skills.
  • Observes/documents physical, developmental and psychological needs of individuals in service.
  • Facilitates opportunities for participation and positive interactions between individuals and their communities.
  • Presents oneself as professional and courteous at all times.
  • Respects client/stakeholder confidentiality.

*** Prior to confirmation of employment all applicants must provide a current (dated within 6 months of hiring date) Criminal Record Check and Ministry Check. These checks can take up to 6 weeks to obtain, please ensure you prepare accordingly.As An Ideal Candidate You Possess

  • MUST HAVE 2 years experience working with individuals with significant mental health concerns, aggressive behaviours and/or trauma.
  • Ability to work well in an environment with potential for aggression/violence.
  • Diploma or Degree – Disability Service Worker, Social Work, Special Education, Health Care Aide, Personal Support Worker or related field.
  • Valid class 5 driver license (or GDL and 3 years Canadian driving experience) with clear driving abstract and reliable vehicle.
  • Clear and current, National Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Current First Aid/CPR and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention certification (NVCI or CPI).
  • Training in Trauma Informed Practice, Medication Administration, Suicide Intervention, Behaviour Management, Conflict Resolution, Food Safe.
  • Confident and able to function in a crisis.
  • Ability to perform personal care for clients and handle bodily fluids.
  • Ability to work within an environment in which there is daily smoking/vaping by the client.
