Duties include supports with morning hygiene, meal prep, and household tasks, as well as employment/volunteer coaching. Planning day program that includes teaching life and daily living skills.The PositionThe Disability Services Worker (DSW), under supervision of their supervisor, facilitates and monitors education and development programs for purposes of providing individuals in service with physical, behavioural, emotional and social supports/supervision in residence and in the community. DSWs develop relationships and act as a liaison with the community, family members, guardians and employers. The DSWs will support adults to gain independent living skills, including assistance with daily living activities including meal preparation, household chores, laundry, etc. and community access (accessing transportation to educational, recreation and community programs/events). They also, mentor and advocate for the client, and empower them to be self reliant and confident. This position reports to the Team Leader.The Supportive Independent Living Worker provides support with morning hygiene, meal prep and household tasks, as well as employment coaching. The worker plans a day program that includes teaching life and daily living skills. Candidate must be physically active, based upon the needs of the client. A good understanding of Autism and managing seizures is an asset.This position requires CUPE union membershipSchedule
One (1) permanent full-time position working 40 hours a week:

• Monday through Friday 0800-1600
• Hours are school/days when school is in session, based on the needs of the individual/family. On school holidays the person-served is with their family and supports are not needed. There is the opportunity to pick up casual shifts during this time.

In Your Role You Will

• Mentor and teach life skills including communication skills, coping with emotions and change, budgeting, household management, boundaries and self care, relationships, self expression, social skills, coping tools, community awareness, personal safety, etc.
• Help find activities of interest.
• Develop life skills and help find volunteer/ employment opportunities.
• Promote inclusion in community activities involving educational, recreational programming and participation in the volunteer sector.
• Link the client to community support services and employment coaching such as resume building or job searches.

• Grade 12 diploma or diploma in Disability Studies or related Social Sciences/Human Services or equivalent.

Training or Experience:

• Minimum two years community rehabilitation experience as well as experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities. Specialized education and training and/or demonstrated success in relevant settings.

Licenses/Certificates:

• Clear Criminal Record Check and Child Welfare check.
• Valid Class 5 Alberta driver’s license, Driver’s Abstract and proof of insurability.
• First Aid/CPR, Restrictive Procedures, Abuse Protocols, Non Violent Crisis Prevention Intervention.

Other:

• Must be physically active, a good understanding of Autism and managing seizures is an asset.
• Use of common/business computer applications.
