The successful candidates will be exposed to many practical construction functions during their work term. We are looking for students available for 4, 8 or 12-month terms starting in January 2025.Here’s how a(n) Engineering/Technical Student for our Edmonton Buildings office contributes to our team:ResponsibilitiesField Engineering/Technical StudentReport deficiencies by going on various site visitsMonitor and coordinate trade scopes of workCoordinate and update field drawings, specifications, and project schedulesParticipate in project meetings and get a chance to be part of something bigger by working closely with seasoned project professionalsConduct trade contractor quote reviewsGet to visit some of our impressive projects and job sites while taking progress photos and monitoring deficiency logs knowing that you helped build thatBe responsible for performing bid day assignments and overall bid document control. Everyone at PCL takes ownership and that includes students.Assistance with on-site problem solvingIntegrated Construction Technology (ICT) StudentLearn to model and navigate through Revit to assist with quantity takeoffs.Review specifications and drawings to ensure necessary details for a scope of work are being uploaded by sub-trades.Use Revit to look for clashes between trade models.Attend construction site-visits for exposure to the construction process and information on what is required on site for different projects.Help with editing of PDF files such as site plans and mechanical drawings using Bluebeam.Utilize different technology devices such as 3D laser scanning and drone flights to support the ICT specialists.Estimating StudentPerform quantity takeoffs from drawings.Assist in building the estimate by formatting and organizing takeoffs.Review specifications and drawings to ensure all details are captured.Call trades to discuss scope of work and confirm bidding status.Help with bid closings and dropping off bids.Attend construction site-visits for exposure to the construction process, understanding the challenges faced on site and acquire “lessons learned”, from operations team.Attend pre-bid site visits to gather information for project logistic planning, as well as, assessing risks and opportunities, through assessment reports, to build a more accurate estimateSetting up and updating information on Smartbidnet.QualificationsAll Positions

  • Candidates must have a strong desire to work in a construction environment and prior field construction experience will be considered an asset.
  • Application of various computer software programs will be required, including word processing, spreadsheet applications and drafting.
  • Knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, and Sketchup will be considered an asset.
  • Access to a clean, reliable vehicle
