Job description: MORE ABOUT THIS JOB:OUR IMPACTData lake is the centralized storage repository that holds a vast amount of raw data in its native format. Our data lake helps us break down information silos, minimize risk of data loss and miscategorization, and analyze and share data across our company. This data can be readily projected into appropriate technologies for consumption or transformation. Data Lake uses a wide variety of cutting edge technologies including Hadoop, HBase, HDFS, Map/Reduce, Spark, Apache Beam, Apache Flink, Kakfa, SQL data warehouses, Presto, Hive, Java and Python.The User Engagement and Product Management team engages the firm’s Engineers (our users) to understand their big data needs, educate them on the Lake’s features and functionality, provide technical support and manage the product roadmap. The team is functionally knowledgeable about the Lake’s current and planned features as well as technically adept at identifying and resolving simple issues in the codebase. They are responsible for developing analytics on user’s Lake usage, configuration/software behavior, data patterns and issues in order to better understand, serve and proactively manage our users. In addition, the team builds tooling and training solutions to facilitate quicker resolution of user requests, independent learning of the Lake’s functionality and to promote self-service.YOUR IMPACT
- Leverage your understanding of big data concepts, hands-on experience and knowledge of the Data Lake to provide guidance and technical support to the Lake’s users
- Engage and develop relationships with users to understand their business use cases, how the Data Lake can provide effective solutions and to identify enhancements to be added to the product roadmap
- Use client support and problem solving skills, a collaborative work ethic, and a keen sense of prioritization to help users remediate and address issues, problems and risks
- Provide configuration, code reviews and, when necessary, develop or enhance key software components to assist users to efficiently use the Lake to meet their business requirements
- Influence and help drive the prioritization of the Data Lake product roadmap and the development of new functionality based on your knowledge of user’s business needs
- Identify analytics to track user’s Lake usage, configuration/software behavior, data patterns and issues; create data models to support the analytics, leverage the Data Lake to generate the data and develop dashboards using off-the-shelf tools
- Contribute to the Data Lake’s knowledge base that documents its features, functionality, best practices and user guides
- Contribute to the user training solutions so that users can learn about the Lake’s features and functions independently and at their own pace

- Develop an in-depth understanding of big data concepts and gain hands-on experience of how they are supported in the Data Lake
- Problem solving, creativity and ownership will empower you to troubleshoot and remedy user issues, problems and risks
- Use your technical knowledge and software development skills to assist users, identify issues and make minor software changes
- Develop a data-driven mindset to create and use analytics to help drive decisions on which users require attention, what features should be prioritized and predict issues before they occur
- Understand user’s business use cases so that you can influence and help drive the priority and development of the Data Lake product
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 2-3 years of software development and/or business management experience, with particular focus on business data management in a client/user facing role
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Exceptional communication skills both written & verbal
- Strong interpersonal skills & proven success in cross-functional collaboration
- Ability to independently & effectively manage workflows and multiple priorities while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- A common sense approach to problem-solving fueled by the intellectual curiosity to spot future problems & identify new solutions
- Comfortable handling a large volume of emails and phone calls
- A healthy obsession on customer satisfaction and the customer experience, and a willingness to be its internal advocate
- The ability to self-direct as circumstances change and priorities shift, based on organizational needs, without constant & overt micromanagement
- Ability to stay commercially focused and to always push for quantifiable commercial impact

- Extensive knowledge and proven experience applying domain driven design to build complex business applications or processes
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A Bachelor’s degree (Masters preferred) in a computational field (Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, or in a related quantitative discipline)
- Working knowledge of more than one programming language (Python, R, Java, C++, Slang etc.)
