Job description: Job Description:WSP has a new opportunity for a Experienced Project Engineer – Construction to join our Applied Solutions team on a full-time basis based in Western Canada (Manitoba | Saskatchewan | Alberta).The Experienced Project Engineer – Construction will work as part of a practice group which handles a diverse range of engineering projects supporting construction operations for projects across Northwestern Ontario, Western Canada and the North.Resourcefulness and capability to define, develop and lead multidisciplinary projects with a strong business sense is critical to this role. The successful candidate will be working with a regional team on large-scale, multi-disciplinary projects, focusing on infrastructure services, decommissioning and demolition, mine closure, site remediation and ground improvement works. Projects are delivered in various forms, form contract administration, contract management to general contracting. The role involves working in closely integrated project teams delivering Project Engineering Services in support of Construction, that support our project teams and our clients in Ontario and Eastern Canada.The Applied Solutions teams’ practice of engineering focuses on delivering “How-To” for our project teams and clients and working closely to deliver the “How-to” in the field with our construction colleagues.   • Detailed engineering design and specification package development;
  • Project development, work instruction planning (WIP’s), project planning, phasing and scheduling – working with stakeholders to ensure constructible project delivery. Candidates must demonstrate means and methods knowledge of construct with the ability to provide detailed sequential descriptions of how to execute work. Candidates will assist with other constructability reviews;
  • Project management of engineering projects, and contract administration experience is required as part of project delivery;
  • Work with estimating functions and procurement functions on development of scopes of work and providing support to estimating and procurement activities as necessary;
  • Preparing detailed engineering estimates for projects;
  • Assisting team in the preparation of proposals and presentations to promote services;
  • Management of project health and safety, with support from the operational and corporate H&S team;
  • Project scheduling (MS Project and Primavera P6 or other platforms);
  • Working with field staff to resolve technical and constructability issues; and,
  • Assist senior staff with business development

What you’ll bring to WSP:

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering and Management, B.Sc. or equivalent
  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the Province of Manitoba, Saskatchewan or Alberta (required), and ability to be licensed in other provinces.
  • A track record (verifiable) of construction project management experience with demonstratable project management role progression.
  • Minimum of 5 – 8 years’ experience in professional engineering practice in a variety of project assignments
  • Experience in Projects related to new Construction, Mining, Environmental Remediation, Demolition and/or Infrastructure would be desirable.
  • Must be willing to travel 30% and work independently and remotely in WSP offices when required.
  • Self-starter and with a willingness to learn and experience.
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal, and interpersonal)
  • Strong computer skills
  • Strong organizational skills
