We are devoted to making “Safety… Our Way of Life”.Summary:Reporting to the CFO, the Finance Manager – Operations will be responsible for the management of the day-to-day operations and leadership of the project analyst group at the Fort McKay Group of Companies. The incumbent will work closely with Management and the Executive Team to accomplish the company’s goals and objectives based on the business and partnership plans.Key Focuses:

  • Lead, manage, and be proactive in all day-to-day finance and accounting for the Operations Finance group, including functional responsibility in daily, weekly, monthly financial review, posting, financial analysis, , internal financial reporting, and related reconciliations.
  • Builds, develops, establishes, and maintains accounting protocols, procedures, and best practices within their department. Document business processes and policies to strengthen controls and ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Prepare, analyze, and provide recommendations on required operating costs and results for each Operations Org Unit within the Fort McKay Group of Companies.
  • Analyze internal financial statements. Compare budget to actual results and forecast to actual results monthly. Ensure quality control over financial transactions and reporting, and ensure records systems are maintained within acceptable auditing standards.
  • Provide analysis and strategic advice on the financial implications of business activities and financial issues impacting divisional budgets to provide continual improvement of the budgeting process, and strategically enhance financial performance and support for all financial corporate decision making.
  • Assist with the external financial audit process as required.
  • Responsible for content, accuracy, and timeliness of all financial reporting to the Management and Executive Team as required. Report any trends that are critical to the organization’s financial performance.
  • Manage and lead the Project Analyst staff. Work closely with team members and provide leadership, education, mentoring, evaluation, and constructive feedback on operational, finance, accounting procedures, and performance related matters. Foster a cooperative and engaged team, resolve conflicts, and provide sounds decisions within the limits of authority.
  • Maintains a respectful and positive relationship with the vendors, service providers, and internal and external clients, acts as a liaison with various financial institutions and insurance providers.
  • Create, coordinate, and evaluate the financial programs and supporting information systems of the company to include budgeting, financial reporting, and other support as required.
  • Oversee the approval and processing of revenue, expenditure, position control documents, department budgets, general ledger, account, and system maintenance.
  • Perform any related and/or additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • Completion of post-secondary education with a Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration or a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree is preferred
  • Candidates with a valid Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation are preferred.
  • Knowledge in MS Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Outlook is required. Experience in SAP and Power Bi considered an asset.
  • At least 10+ years of progressive experience in the Oil/Gas or Mining industry in a Finance or Accounting role, with at least 8+ years of experience in supervising/managing a department is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge and experience in finance, cost control and management.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including good oral, written communication, and listening skills
  • Strong business acumen and professionalism, with an ability to provide sound financial and business recommendations and understand the need to mitigate key elements of the company’s risk profile.
  • Strong attention to detail with an exceptional level of accuracy.
  • Able to facilitate presentations to small and large groups of internal or external clients.
  • Ability to work independently and multitask, as well as manage staff effectively in a dynamic team environment.
  • Demonstrates continuous learning through cross-training, learning new skills, and refreshing prior skills.
  • Must have strong analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong commitment to safety, including personal safety, safety of co-workers, and the protection of FMGOC and client’s property in accordance and compliance with company practices, industry standards, and government regulations.
  • Excellent time management skills, with a strong ability to foster effective time management practices to their staff.

This is a full time position located at the satellite office in Fort McMurray, AB.Work Schedule is Monday to Friday, 8 hours per dayWhat we offer:
