As a member of this collaborative team, you can expect a safe, diverse and inclusive environment, and on-going learning and career development opportunities.SummaryReporting to the Director of Finance, the Finance Manager is responsible for all aspects of the accounting and financial support for a portfolio of large projects within the Division. The incumbent is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operations of the business and assisting in the development and implementation of the Divisions strategic financial and business operations goals. The candidate will lead the performance management, accounting deliverables, including reporting, and forecasting in accordance with company policies and procedures. This role is a trusted business partner and a valued contributor within the team. This is a permanent opportunity working from the Calgary or Edmonton Corporate Office.Essential FunctionsExecution

  • Manage a Project Accounting and Transaction Processing Team.
  • Mentor and coach direct reports, providing guidance and advice.
  • Develop and present reports and presentations for senior leadership.
  • Prepare and manage financial results and budgets.
  • Delivery of accurate, consistent, and relevant financial information.
  • Oversee the overall process and controls within the group.

Standards, Process & Controls

  • Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and internal controls along with professional accounting standards, including revenue recognition.
  • Responsible for compliance with accounting processes and actively contributing to the ongoing development of the companies’ systems and processes.

Transactional Services

  • Ensure compliance with deadlines and provide guidance and direction to the Transactional Leads as required.
  • Support the team to ensure efficient and consistent timekeeping and LEMS processing.
  • Accountable for various KPIs including DSO.
  • Responsible for workflow and process optimization for the organization to achieve cash management goals.

Operations Finance Support

  • Build and maintain a strong business partnership with key operations stakeholders, including external clients/owners/subcontractors.
  • Collaborate with project teams and internal stakeholder groups on Contract Management and Administration.
  • Participate in and provide guidance on new pursuits and contract reviews.
  • Support operations teams to achieve planned business performance and strategic objectives with a focus on adherence to KPI standards, project financial health, cost control and cash management.
  • Analyze and understand key business drivers, trends and market conditions that could impact the business.
  • Lead and collaborate on divisional and functional initiatives.

Reporting & Analysis

  • Support management in the preparation of budgets and forecasts for the portfolio.
  • Oversee month-end and quarterly closing process and reviews, including journal entry review and variance reporting.
  • Participate in the monthly review and presentation of results to Senior Management.
  • Lead the deliverables for audit work requirements (external & client) for the respective portfolio.
  • Continually develop and present relevant, and timely management reporting and analysis for stakeholders.

  • Degree in Commerce/Business/Accounting or a related field.
  • Professional Accounting Designation (CPA) is required.
  • 10+ years relevant accounting experience.
  • 3+ years managing finance teams, experience with multi-location environment an asset.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Understanding of Project Accounting principles and practices.
  • Strong technical accounting proficiency
  • Strong critical thinking skills.
  • Experience in Construction, Engineering or Manufacturing industries is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Excel and large ERP systems, SAP preferred.
