Through efficient and environmentally sustainable operation, we offer grounds, custodial, building operations, facilities planning, security services and engineering professional services to provide a physical environment that supports and enhances our academic space for students and staff. Our team of professionals are dedicated to providing customer service excellence. Our staff respond to daily service requests and emergency / priority situations as needed.About the RoleReporting to the Grounds Manager, this full-time position performs skilled work requiring specialized knowledge and training in all aspects of grounds maintenance such as horticulture, equipment operation, irrigation repairs and maintenance of hard landscape features.This position is a full-time role working 35 hours per week and involves hands-on grounds maintenance.ResponsibilitiesGeneral MaintenanceMaintain the turf areas, push mowers, line trimmers, etcPick up leavesClean parking lots and roadways in springPerimeter garbage checksAssist the Full time staff when neededAssists (when needed) with start up and blow out of irrigation systemEquipment OperationOn a regular schedule, operates a riding mower to keep grass cut at a uniform height.Operates other riding, hand-held, and push-type equipment for grounds maintenance in summer and winter.Brings to the attention of the mechanic, any major and minor repairs that might be needed.Assists in keeping all equipment clean and in good working order such as oil levels, tire pressures, etc.Snow RemovalRemoves snow and ice from pedestrian, vehicular routes and parking lots before the start of College activities whenever possible.Applies sand, gravel and de-icer by hand or machine to keep surfaces safe.Is responsible for snow fence installation and dismantling.Exterior CaretakingRemoves garbage from all exterior waste receptacles, plus physically bends down and picks up garbage throughout the entire campus grounds on a daily basis.Sweeps all entrances daily to remove cigarette butts and debris, clean-out all butt buckets (large ashtrays).Spring clean-up, roadway and parking lot sweeping, road drain cleaning, curb and boulevard sweeping and cleaning.Replaces and installs signage.Repairs and maintains exterior landscape features.General RepairsIs involved in departmental maintenance such as in-house painting and manufacturing, and inter-departmental assistance in maintenance programs.Qualifications
