Learn more about the opportunities we create for students, employees, and our province at .Position SummaryThe Healthcare Simulation Technology Specialist ensures optimal functioning of educational technologies within the lab and simulation facility. The role provides support and customer service, and requires broad knowledge of simulation, audiovisual, computer technologies, simulation methodology, healthcare delivery, and organization policy and procedures. The person in this role is required to exercise judgement, set priorities, and manage responsibilities within established parameters. Evening and/or weekend work may be required.Position responsibilities and accountabilities include but are not limited to:Simulation Technology
- Serves as the specialist for the School of Health and Wellness in the lab, simulation, audiovisual and computer
- Provides general technical support and troubleshooting for simulation hardware, equipment and
- Sets up, installs, operates and stores equipment related to
- Works in partnership with third party vendors to trouble shoot simulation
- Demonstrates correct use and provides general support and troubleshooting for all lab and simulation
- Installs updates and performs scheduled maintenance to all lab and simulation equipment and assets, as
- Undertakes inspections of lab equipment and all simulation equipment to monitor condition and report
- Set ups, operates, stores, maintains, and repairs simulators, task trainers and other simulation
- Provides general support and troubleshooting for simulation
- Contributes to, and maintains lab and simulation technology-related
- Liaises with vendors to ensure current and future simulation technology needs are
- Consults and works collaboratively with Information Technology Services as
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of a range of common simulation modalities; including virtual, virtual reality, low, moderate, and high fidelity.
- Demonstrates safe and effective operation and handling of all lab and simulation equipment and
Education and Healthcare
- Demonstrating a general knowledge of simulation methodology, adult education and relevant health profession principles and practices:
- Prepares, operates, and stores practical simulation teaching apparatus and
- Supports simulation center users in the use of instructional media and
- Provides pre-briefing and/or orientation to the learning environment for learners, faculty, and other
- Communicates using medical
- Safely operates medical equipment and associated
- Understands and applies universal precautions when working with biological
- Remains current regarding new developments in simulation technology and provides recommendations to faculty and staff to inform of current trends and best practice.
- Provides training for faculty, staff, learners, and external partners on simulation technology and its
Simulation Operations
- Assists in coordinating access, availability and scheduling of lab and simulation spaces and
- Undertakes stock control, ensuring adequate security and levels of consumables and equipment are
- Ensures preparation and storage areas for the labs and simulation center are maintained in a clean, safe and orderly manner and comply with health and safety regulations.
- Maintains documents and records in support of lab and simulation center
- Responsible for Inventory control on lab and simulation equipment and assists in ever greening
Theatrics and Staging
- Researches, creates, applies, and removes moulage/special effects appropriate to the scenario to increase
- Prepares the lab and simulation environment to accurately represent a clinical setting using real and simulated clinical supplies and equipment.

Required qualifications:
- Diploma in a related field
- 1-2 years of related experience
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Must be able to independently lift and maneuver objects weighing up to 23 kilograms or 50 pounds. Frequent bending, lifting, standing and sitting are required.
