Job description: Atlantica is seeking qualified candidates for a Junior Financial Accountant in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. The Junior Financial Accountant is a key member of our Finance team reporting directly to the Director of Finance. In this role, you will provide day-to-day reconciliation, analysis, and financial support to Atlantica and its associated entities.About Us: Based in Halifax since 1966, Atlantica, a member of the Cahill Group, is one of the largest mechanical and electrical contractors in the Maritimes. Responsibilities: Reporting to the Director of Finance and working in an exciting and collaborative environment, you will be responsible for the following activities:

  • Accounts Receivable

-Weekly review of outstanding balances
– Communicate with customers on balances to ensure timely collection of payment
– Communicate with internal operations teams regarding aging accounts to facilitate collection of payments
– Reconcile customer statements, ensure deposits are posted and applied to appropriate invoices. * Accounts Payable– Respond to vendor inquiries
– Sort and process invoices as they are approved, entered, and paid
– Review payables statements for missing payments, vendor issues, and resolve the issues with the vendor etc. * Accounting o Perform weekly bank reconciliations– Conduct intercompany billing and reconciliations
– Reconcile and post monthly credit card purchases in general ledger
– Allocate costs to projects on a monthly basis
– Input month-end journal entries
– Review outstanding Purchase Orders with project managers
– Close out completed purchase orders
– Perform project set-up and close out in accounting system
– Act as back-up support to Payroll Administrator on weekly payrolls
– Address external auditor requests by providing reports, samples, and supporting documentation for requested transactions * Other Finance and Accounting duties as assignedWho are we looking for?Education and Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Enrollment in or desire to enroll in the Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) program preferred
  • Two years of experience in accounting preferred, but will consider new graduates that have interest in CPA program
  • Financial experience in a multi-company environment is considered an asset
  • Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office required (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
  • Experience and proficiency with Jonas Accounting software an asset

Job Details:

  • Permanent, full-time
  • 37.5 hours per week
  • Monday to Friday
