  • This position provides the option to work from home on Mondays and Fridays each week, with the requirement to report to the primary NOVA Chemicals work location on Tuesdays through Thursdays. Employees can opt out of the hybrid schedule and will be expected to work Monday-Friday from the primary work location.

Together we can create a better, more circular tomorrow.NOVA Chemicals, headquartered in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, is wholly-owned by Mubadala Investment Company of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.We are seeking a Business Controller Leader to join our Finance Controller team and support the Supply Chain and Procurement Leadership team as well as the Sales and Marketing Leadership team. In this role you will collaborate as a business partner for all financial reporting, planning, and analysis activities to increase return on investment (ROI) and support the analytical-based decision-making process.You Will Use Your Expertise To:

  • Mentor and coach team members to develop personal and team plans aligned with business goals
  • Support business decisions through modeling and scenario analysis.
  • Provide in-depth market dynamics knowledge.
  • Partner with Sales and Operations Planning for financial support in business planning.
  • Challenge assumptions and biases in market price outlooks.
  • Identify and refer significant accounting/internal control issues.
  • Develop and oversee monthly financial reporting and variance analysis.
  • Lead budget and forecast processes, ensuring coordinated assumptions and cash flow impact.
  • Track team plans, identify key variances, and drive actions to close gaps or capitalize on trends.
  • Facilitate business process and systems improvements for expense analysis and reporting.
  • Analyze ROI and profitability for business initiatives and capital projects.
  • Advocate for a cost ownership culture.
  • Support Olefins, Polyethylene, and Recycled Polyethylene (rPE) businesses.
  • Co-lead the Commercial Spend Control Tower to optimize expenditures.
  • Contribute to NOVA Chemicals’ continuous improvement efforts.
  • Provide month-end/quarter-end financial reporting and reasonability testing.
  • Communicate financial results to Sales and Marketing as well as Supply Chain and Procurement teams.
  • Offer high-level support and advice to management.
  • Track performance and drive profitability as a key business partner.
  • Manage budgeting, forecasting, and long-term planning processes.
  • Perform analysis to support strategy and ensure compliance with financial processes.
  • Conduct ad-hoc analysis for management decision-making.
  • Lead Digital Finance transformation by identifying technology adoption opportunities.

What We Are Looking For:

  • A bachelor’s degree or post-graduate degree in a business-related field or engineering (MBA preferred)
  • Chartered Processional Accountant (CPA) designation would be an asset
  • A minimum of 10 years of related experience (a combination of manufacturing and finance is preferred)
  • Proven leadership and people management experience with strong interpersonal, mentoring, and organizational skills
  • Skilled in managing people practices such as performance management, compensation planning, development planning, and recruitment
  • Strong working knowledge of SAP and BPC
  • Strong knowledge of OneStream (Financial Planning and Analysis tool)
  • Hands-on experience with business planning, forecasting and budgeting cycles
  • Excellent planning, time management, problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Proven ability to collaborate with people from various levels of the organization to achieve goals
  • Experience in Excel (Power BI knowledge is an asset)
  • Excellent problem-solving and facilitation skills with the ability to plan, prioritize and deliver quality results
  • Team player with strong leadership and collaboration skills and the ability to effectively guide the team
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Continuous Improvement mindset focused on execution productivity
  • Strong analytical skills to disseminate and effectively present data

Additional Information:

  • Relocation will be considered to the nearest geographical NOVA Chemicals’ location for this position
  • Compensation will be commensurate with education and experience
  • This role requires up to 25% travel and the successful applicant must be eligible to travel easily between Canada and the United States
  • The successful candidate is required to provide proof of a valid driver’s license
