The company also produces flash memories, graphics processors, motherboard chip sets, and a variety of components used in consumer electronics goods.Job Title: Linux Software Engineer (Build & Packaging)Work Location: Markham, ON, L3T 7X6Duration: 12 MonthsWork Type: ContractJob Type: HybridJOB DUTIES:THE ROLE:Client is looking for a specialized software engineer to join our Linux Build, Packaging and Install team.The successful candidate will be responsible for working with Linux distribution vendors and package maintainers to improve the out-of-the-box user experience on the client hardware, along with some exposure to support, enhancement, improving efficiency and feature development of the client Unified Linux Driver build and packaging ecosystem.You will be a member of the core team of incredibly talented and highly motivated industry specialists and will work with the very latest graphics and compute hardware and software technology.THE PERSON:The ideal candidate should be passionate about software engineering and possess leadership skills to drive sophisticated issues to resolution.Able to communicate effectively and work optimally with different teams across client as well as with open-source community and distribution partners.Successful candidates will utilize their knowledge of Linux application development, Linux systems administration and packaging for Linux distributions to become key contributors to the ongoing development of client GPU drivers for current and future hardware.Ideal candidates are passionate about Linux and open source, are self-motivated, have exceptional problem-solving skills, will thrive in a fast-paced environment, and have a proven ability to collaborate within and across diverse teams.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Active participation in developing packaging solutions of the client Linux Driver Stack for major Linux distributionsCommunication with open source community and distribution partnersActive involvement into collaborative design and implementation of solutions based on open source and industry standardsParticipation in maintaining the build, packaging, installation and publishing ecosystem of the client Unified Linux DriverInvestigation, triaging, analysis and resolution of issues as reported by customers and QADesigning and implementing solutions improving quality and efficiency of the build and packaging infrastructureStaying informed on trends and innovations in Linux kernel, Linux distributions and open source ecosystemsDebugging/fixing existing issues and research alternative, more efficient ways to accomplish the same workDeveloping technical relationships with peers and partnersPREFERRED EXPERIENCE:Familiarity with C and C++ programming using Linux toolchainsAbility to write high quality code and keep attention to detailsExperience with software development and life time processesExtensive experience with Linux software development and tooling (bash, gcc, make, cmake, autotools, etc.), with Linux system administration and networking skills being a strong plusExtensive experience with multiple Linux distributions and use of multiple package managers (rpm, dpkg, apt, yum, dnf, zypper, etc.)Experience with source code control systems, with knowledge of git and gerrit being a strong plusFamiliarity with Linux bare-metal hypervisors such as KVMFamiliarity with CI/CD and container technologiesKnowledge of working with open source community as it relates to packaging according to distribution requirementsExcellent analytical, debugging and trouble-shooting skillsEffective organizational, communication and problem-solving skillsACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalentTekWissen Group is an equal opportunity employer supporting workforce diversity.
