This position is responsible for general maintenance and repair of shop related equipment, possibly including fabrication of parts and devices. This work will also include ensuring the work areas are in clean, workable, safe conditions, and sufficiently stocked with consumable products. The purpose of the work is to support instructional staff, program support staff such as stock keepers, mechanics, Educational Laboratory Techs, and other Maintenance Service Workers within the department.Key Responsibilities:Duties will include but are not limited to material handling and distribution, stocking inventoryMaintaining security of shop/lab and suppliesFabricating specialized items that may involve the use of skills such as woodworking tools and electricalOperating and monitoring numerous types of mechanical equipment used in the preparation of materials for shops and labs (e.x. forklift operation)Bringing in, setting up and removing various teaching aides for the different programsOther duties as assignedSkills & Abilities:Ability to work independently or in a team settingMust possess strength, stamina, and mobility to perform heavy physical workAble to climb stairs frequently during the dayAbility to perform heavy physical work; able to lift 50 lbs regularlyAbility to lift and move materials and equipment weighing up to 90 lbs and heavier weights with the use of proper equipmentBasic computer skillsStrong communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to be innovative when solving problemsAbility to travel between multiple campuses as requiredQualifications:Completion of Grade twelveRelated trades certificate a strong assetExperience with 3D printing and advanced manufacturing skillsExperience working with CAD softwareA valid class 5 driver’s licenseAbility to operate a forklift and expected to obtain relevant forklift training if not already certifiedExperience in machining, plumbing, electrical, welding, and/or automotive service trades would be an assetEquivalencies may be consideredApplicants with education credentials earned outside of Canada should have their credentials evaluated by World Education Services or the International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS).Remuneration: $48,257.04 – $60,364.46 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
