Are you a Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA), with experience in teaching or training, audit, tax administration and the oil and gas industry? Do you have knowledge of Alberta’s royalty regimes, corporate tax, commodity tax and enjoy challenging work? The Tax and Revenue Administration (TRA) division is looking for a Manager, Audit Training to join our audit team. We are an enthusiastic, goal-orientated and knowledgeable team – join us!Reporting to a Director in the audit branch, you will have overall responsibility for maintaining complex auditing and technical tax expertise and acting as a technical resource in audit, royalty, and taxation matters for highly skilled professional auditors through the development of training materials and provision of training. While this position will support all programs administered by the Audit branch, it will focus on Oil Sands and Natural Gas training. This position develops strategic and tactical plans for training staff in complex programs and is responsible for the development, update, and maintenance of training materials and presentations. This is especially important when new programs are introduced or there are amendments to legislation. The Manager also ensures the efficiency, effectiveness and integrity of staff development and technical training, within the branch, and assists auditors, as required, in working through unique and complex issues. The incumbent uses their extensive experience with royalty and taxation matters to support branch training requirements, evidence-based decisions making, and program administration. This position also supervises two staff members.The incumbent is responsible for providing technical expertise on a variety of royalty, corporate, and commodity programs and training a team of highly skilled professional auditors in providing audit assurance to ensure that royalty payers and taxpayers are complying with legislation and program requirements and ensuring royalties, taxes, and levies, are collected in a manner that is accurate and fair. The position also keeps up to date with best practices, legislative and industry changes to enable timely communication of those changes to staff, allowing for more effective audits. The position plays a significant role in providing guidance to staff on key initiatives related to modernization of processes and improved utilization of data while supporting auditors with change management and fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.Role Responsibility ContinuedThe Manager will have multiple projects underway at any given time, ranging from small to large scale initiatives, and implements strategies and procedures to attain long term Audit objectivesYou will be challenged to demonstrate creativity and innovation in identifying audit efficiencies and adapt to changing environments in Alberta’s tax and royalty programs. As a manager, you will also be responsible for identifying potential regulatory or policy issues, as well as providing comprehensive analysis and detailed recommendations to senior management.You must be able to prioritize to ensure you meet tight timelines. You will have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, and be able to articulate and present complex issues to a variety of internal and external stakeholders. Strong analytical and interpretative skills as well as attention to detail and accuracy will assist you in this role.
