Job description: Job SummaryJob DescriptionWhat is the opportunity?The Chief Control Office (CCO) is a 2nd line of defense assurance team reporting into Finance designed to add value and improve RBC’s financial control environment and reporting process. It provides subject matter expert (SME) advice, enabling RBC to achieve its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, controls and governance processes across the Bank which impacts the financial statements.The Manager, reporting to the Senior Director, will be responsible for managing and supporting transformation activities for the CFO Group by providing subject matter expertise on risks, controls, and governance matters. The incumbent will also participate in control-related projects in other CCO areas, as necessary.What will you do?Supporting key control and governance transformation initiatives with a focus on:

  • Delivering a fit for purpose control structure by streamlining RBC’s control structure through the creation of an enterprise approach for development of controls, standardized process documentation, and common tools. The found capacity across the organization will be repurposed to deliver against the increased regulatory expectations.
  • Implementing a financial control framework for data that leverages the CDO’s enterprise framework, tailored to address financial reporting risk (including SOX).
  • Assessing current operating environment within CFO Group and implement additional areas of standardization and automation opportunities.
  • Elevating risk and control knowledge across all stakeholder groups via training and education programs.
  • Providing subject matter expertise as it pertains to controls and governance.

Performing data analytics and deep dive analysis on issues and root causes to identify opportunities to strengthen RBC’s broader control environment.

  • Drawing insights from data analysis and understanding of control issues identified across functional programs (e.g., SOX, op risk, reg compliance, IA) through review of quarterly assessments, deep dive analysis, data analytics, and KPIs.
  • Implementing actions based on emerging trends and root cause analysis for CFO Group and the broader control environment.
  • Assisting in the identification of improvements and actions for CFO Group through discussions at ECC and other forums.

Other CCO initiatives

  • Supporting a One RBC approach to navigating peak periods by providing targeted support on other CCO initiatives including but not limited to providing risks, controls, and governance challenge and subject matter advice, where applicable.
  • Participating in ad-hoc projects as directed by Senior Director, CCO Controls Transformation.

What do you need to succeed?Must-have

  • 2+ years of relevant work experience
  • Proven track record as valued advisor with risk and control mindset
  • Ability to independently propose solutions to problems and, leveraging business and strategic insights, recommend a course of action, in spite of incomplete information and complexity
  • Ability to manage timelines and project progress through both personal accountability and through coordinating and negotiating with stakeholders
  • Solid relationship management skills since frequent interaction with key contacts is necessary to be successful in this role; specifically able to act as a change agent
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to make complex subject matter easy-to-follow

Nice-to-have

  • Chartered Professional Accountant designation preferred
  • Solid understanding of financial institutions, including all facets of RBC’s business and other activities with strong business acumen
  • Exposure to SOX and regulatory compliance or similar regimes in like organizations
