Job description: Description :The Role: Manager, FP&AAs a Manager, FP&A, you serve a critical role in ensuring that Vancity achieves its long-term financial plan and financial sustainability. The mandate of the FP&A is to quantify and model capital, liquidity, expected credit losses and other balance sheet reserves. To democratize and demystify long-term strategic performance information, ensuring an optimal allocation of resources across the organization, and to support the coordination of initiatives, projects, and programs through effective long-term financial planning. This role directly supports the Director, Financial Planning & Analysis and leads a team in the long-range financial planning and capital and reserving processes for the Vancity group of companies.A typical day would involve:

  • Reporting and Analysis – Establishing an account manager relationship with senior leaders of the respective accountability areas, providing long-term financial reporting and analysis to enable informed decision making that align with our strategy.
  • Financial Modeling – Establish and lead financial modeling and stress testing for the Vancity group of Companies, for example lead the Internal Capital Adequacy Process (ICAAP), Liquidity Stress Testing (LST), Expected Credit Loan Loss Allowance (ECL) and more. Support decision makers with financial analysis, what-if modeling, and by assisting with the development of business cases.
  • Relationship Building – Acting in a concierge role to broker other services from the Finance division to senior leaders through identification of needs and opportunities.
  • Team Development – developing the talent pool within your team
  • Risk Management – integrating risk management processes to ensure the ongoing identification, monitoring, and assessment of risks plus implementing strategies to address key risks.

You have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Economics, or Business Administration from a recognized post-secondary institution (or equivalent)
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (Canada) designation
  • Experience requirements
  • Minimum 2 Years of experience at the management level or higher
  • Business acumen in the context of the financial industry.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills to create clear understanding of expectations, address challenges and issues for the business unit; and represent the unit across the organization.
  • Knowledge of the concepts, practices and techniques of the related field.
  • Planning and coordination skills to develop plans, processes, methods and standards for a financial modeling.
  • Problem solving and decision-making skills to diagnose challenges and issues; develop innovative business solutions; and to assess risks and opportunities that may affect long-term financial plans and modeling.
  • Thorough understanding of data warehousing concepts, data storage technologies, business intelligence tools, and performance metrics.
  • Strong technical accounting/finance skills including thorough knowledge of IFRS standards.
  • Research and analytical skills to assess and recommend course of action on trends, and to identify risks and opportunities that may impact the long-term financial plans and models.
