This is achieved through funding safe and welcoming programs and multi-sport games where Albertans can play, learn, compete, and even represent the province on the world stage.To learn more about us, please visit:Role ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Director of Strategy and Policy, this position involves a broad scope of responsibilities. It provides leadership and coordination of grant processes, Ministry capital planning, and corporate services that support the Sport, Physical Activity and Recreation (SPAR) Branch programs and services.The Manager is responsible for leading and directing the operations of the Major Sport Events grant, Active Communities Initiative, Capital Planning, and other grants administered by the Strategy and Policy Unit. The Manager provides oversight of grant processes and reporting, as and ensures that all aspects of program delivery are consistent with relevant legislation, program guidelines, strategic business plan goals of the Ministry and the Government of Alberta, and principles of administrative fairness. and other grants administered by the Strategy and Policy Unit, ensuring consistency, consistency, and accountability across grant programs.The Manager also works in close collaboration with Branch and Division program areas and department corporate service areas to coordinate business and strategic planning and reporting, business continuity, and emergency management, adhering to ministry and broader Alberta government policies, regulations, and mandates.Responsibilities Include:

  • Leading grant processes, including for Major Sport Events and Active Communities Initiative
  • Leading Department Capital Planning Processes
  • Responsible for corporate operations related to sport, physical activity, and recreation
  • Responsible for ARTS issues management for the Strategy and Policy program area
  • Participating in cross-government committees, teams and working groups to ensure thoroughness and consistency in policy, legislative and program development related to SPAR and/or GoA priorities (e.g. Red Tape Reduction, MMIWG)

QualificationsRequired:

  • University degree in a field related to the position assignment such as Accounting, Political Science, Public Administration, Kinesiology, or similar, PLUS four years related experience.

Equivalency:

  • Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis

  • Process experience management
  • Process improvement knowledge and understanding
  • Experience with grant administration and compliance
  • Experience and knowledge of project management processes
  • Capital project planning or administration experience
  • Experience with Government of Alberta decision-making processes
  • Experience working in or with non-profit community, sport, or recreation organizations.
