Job description: DescriptionThis is a dual role with both youth and adult corrections. The youth worker role is responsible for the coordination and facilitation of Community Alternatives for Youth Programs focusing on Community Reintegration supporting Extra-judicial Sanctions and Direct Counselling in Perth County. The adult worker role is responsible for community correctional programming.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Program

  • Supporting Extra-judicial Sanctions and Direct Counselling in Perth County and Direct Counselling Programs.
  • Facilitate group and or one-to-one Community Alternatives for Youth and Community Learning Hub Programs as referred.
  • Support Youth in the Community Reintegration Program (including transportation of young persons as required).
  • Work as an advocate for Youth with Community agencies including Police Services, Mental Health, Probation, Education, Justice Sector, Housing, etc.
  • Act as a mentor and positive role model for Youth.
  • Attend Youth Court as required.

Program 2 – Direct Accountability Program (DAP)

  • Support and provide case management for the Direct Accountability and Community Service Order Programs and individual and/or group Program Options including but not limited to Stop Shop Theft, Anger and Substance Awareness, and Alcohol and Drug Awareness.
  • Process Referrals, Intakes and Completions.
  • Assigns sanctions including Community Service.
  • Assist in the collection and distribution of Charitable Donations and Restitution.
  • Work with community agencies including Police Services, Mental Health, Addiction Services, Education, Justice Sector, Housing, etc. as directed.
  • Attend Court as required.
  • Attend and participate in quarterly DAP program check-in meetings.
  • Complete statistical reports as required.

Agencies and Community Resources

  • Community development to increase awareness of Community Alternatives for Youth in Perth and Huron County.
  • Weekly contact with Probation and attend Youth Court when required.
  • Work as an advocate for Youth with Community agencies including Police Services, Crown, Mental Health, Probation, Education, Justice Sector, Housing, etc.

Administration

  • Complete monthly submission of Salvation Army – SAMIS statistics.
  • Complete Statistical Reports for the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services.
  • Prepare for and participate in Salvation Army Accreditation Reviews.
  • Prepare/submit case notes, court reports, monthly and quarterly statistical forms to the various Ministry funders and Social Services and The Salvation Army.
  • Process Referrals, Intakes and Completions.

Health and Safety:

  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.

Perform other position related duties as required.WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • This is a permanent position based on 30 hours per week.
  • Flexibility in scheduling is required.
  • Schedule may vary according to requirements of responsibilities.
  • Travel is associated with this position; providing transportation for youth will be required on occasion.
  • Providing service to Perth and Huron Counties.

Normal hours of work: Monday to Friday and includes a ½-hour unpaid meal break where applicable. Shift day and times are subject to client availability. Some evenings may be required.Normal location of work is: 230 Lightbourne Avenue, Stratford ON N4Z 1J6QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completed two (2) or more years of Community College, i.e. Youth Worker Diploma, Social Services Diploma or equivalent diploma is required.
  • An Undergraduate Degree in Social Work
  • Valid First Aid/CPR Certification.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certification.
  • Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, personal vehicle required with $2 million in liability insurance, current copy of driver’s abstract that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.
  • Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered.

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Minimum of two (2) year of prior related experience, preference in community programs working with adult and youth at risk.
  • Minimum of two (2) years prior related experience in working with Youth at risk.
  • Working knowledge of the area and community resources of Perth and Huron Counties.
  • Knowledge and experience in restorative justice practices.

  • Participate in mandatory orientation training, on-going professional development and training.
  • Participate in regular supervision and performance appraisal processes.
  • Proficient in working in a computerized environment; must demonstrate strong skills using Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, Power Point.
  • Ability to adhere to The Salvation Army Standards of Conduct and Code of Ethics.
  • Represent the organization in a positive, professional and engaging manner.
  • Must comply with all Salvation Army policies, procedures and associated legislation.
  • Treat the property of The Salvation Army with due care and caution.
  • Screening through The Salvation Army Abuse Registry.
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
