One of Canada’s Best Managed Companies for 20 consecutive years and ranked as one of the top banks in Canada on Forbes World’s Best Banks list for two years in a row, we are a team of smart, gutsy, and driven individuals.Reporting to the Leader of People & Culture Operations, this position is responsible for the overall leadership and operational oversight of the payroll and benefit teams by planning, managing, controlling, and monitoring all aspects of the organization’s payroll and benefits function to ensure timely and accurate processing and disbursements of funds.In addition, responsibilities also include ongoing business program and process reviews to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the payroll and benefit operations and to ensure we are providing our employees with an exceptional employee experience.Requirements:The following is a list of key responsibility areas.   • Ensure that our payroll programs, policies, processes and systems provide a strategic advantage to enabling the talent at Servus and ensure they are easy for our employees to deal with.
  • Oversee payroll processing, ensuring accurate data entry and maintaining effective controls.
  • Act as the technical expert on payroll legislation, financial analysis, and internal controls, and monitor and communicate changes to payroll legislation.
  • Lead and manage the benefits team, ensuring that team members are equipped to handle inquiries, resolve issues, and continuously develop their expertise in benefits administration.
  • Liaise with third-party vendors (insurance providers, retirement plan administrators) to manage relationships, negotiate contracts, and ensure service delivery.
  • Collaborate with the Total Rewards team to evaluate and update benefits offerings to ensure competitiveness in the market.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate continuous improvement strategies relating to payroll and benefit administration
  • Deliver excellent customer service by providing timely and respectful responses, sound advice and clarity for more complex payroll and benefit enquires.
  • Oversee the daily operations of payroll and benefit staff: direct, train, & coordinate staff, participate in the hiring and selection of candidates for employment.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong leadership skills and proven ability to work collaboratively with employees at all levels in the organization as well as key staff in People & Culture and Accounting
  • Continuous improvement skills with the ability to identify and implement system and process improvements
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to trouble shoot and cross check for errors
  • Strong work ethic, ability to work independently in a time sensitive work environment, approach work with a “can do” attitude combined with a demonstrated ability to multi-task and manage conflicting priorities
  • Proficient in creating management reports relating to payroll and benefits and related financial information
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Extensive understanding of governing statutes and regulations regarding payroll and benefits obtained from Canada Revenue Agency, Alberta Labour Standards, Human Resources Development Canada, and the National Payroll Institute

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 to 10 years’ experience in payroll and benefit processing, with management or supervisory experience

Education and Training:

  • PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) designation through the National Payroll Institute, or working towards completion
  • GBA (Group Benefit Associate) or CEBS (Certified Employee Benefit Specialist) designation through the IFEBP or working towards completion
  • Post -secondary education in Human Resources, Payroll and Benefits Administration or a related field
