RT Medical Job DescriptionPersonal Support Workers (PSWs) will provide care to individuals who need assistance as they deal with the effects of aging, injury, surgery, or illness.Please note that this position is for agency staffing support and home care services.The role will include:
- Assisting clients with personal care such as bathing and dressing
- Providing companionship
- Taking clients for outings or exercise
- Performing basic meal preparation
- Performing light housekeeping duties such as washing dishes, taking out the garbage, doing patient’s laundry, vacuuming and dusting
- Providing respite while the primary caregiver is out of the home
- Reminding clients about their medication
- Taking clients to appointments or shopping
- Being a part of the client’s total care program
- Acting upon delegated tasks as required within your scope of practice
Qualifications
- Successful candidates must have one of the following qualifications:
- Valid Personal Support Worker Certificate from a Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities or the Ministry of Education approved program
- RN/RPN, Paramedic, Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy student with a minimum successful completion of year one of the program
- Holds a valid certificate as a Home Support Worker (level II or III), Health Care Aide, or Personal Attendant
- Holds a valid certificate as a Developmental Support Worker
- Internationally licensed Nurse, Midwife or Physician
- Valid G2/G driver’s license and access to a reliable car is an asset
- Physical ability to stand, bend, walk, crouch, kneel and reach, ability to lift 50lbs (23 kg) independently, ability to assist clients with standing, walking, and sitting; ability to reposition clients in bed
- Valid Standard First Aid and Level C CPR
- Updated immunization records (including completion of a two-step tuberculosis test within the last 6 months)
- Clear criminal background check, and Vulnerable sector check are required upon hire
- Ability to interact with others in a caring, tactful and courteous manner
- Proficient verbal and written English communication skills
- Ability to use computer and phone applications
Requirements
- Vulnerable Sector Check completed within the last six months
- Submission of proof of three COVID vaccinations
- TB test completed within 6 months to a year
- Immunization record
- Up-to-date CPR and First Aid certification
