We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Principal Bioinformatics Software Engineer to join our growing team and contribute to the development of high-performance, high-quality NGS bioinformatics algorithms.As a Principal Bioinformatics Software Engineer specializing in Next Generation Sequencing Bioinformatics at Roche Diagnostics, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and optimizing pioneering algorithms to extract meaningful insights from genomic data. This position offers an outstanding opportunity to work on innovative projects that impact the fields of diagnostics and precision medicine. You will work closely with cross-functional teams of biologists, data scientists, and software engineers to build robust, scalable, and efficient software solutions.Your OpportunityDesign, develop, and implement high-performance bioinformatics algorithms and pipelines for analyzing NGS data, including read processing, alignment, variant calling, quality control and reporting.Conduct all aspects of algorithm and pipeline development work including design, implementation, testing, verification, and continuous optimization to ensure accuracy, efficiency and scalability.Collaborate with biologists, data scientists, and other software engineers to understand the specific requirements, constraints and other Roche systems to ensure seamless communication and integrationSupport internal users, evaluate use cases, propose, evaluate and implement solutionsCreate documentation for algorithms and workflows, visualization of data and present across teams to facilitate knowledge transfer and ensure reproducibility.Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and learning within the team.Who you areYou have a Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics or other quantitative fields with over 6 year’ of experience.Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, and/or C++ with proven experience in developing bioinformatics algorithms for NGS data analysis.Proficiency in bioinformatics tools and libraries.Hands-on experience with workflow management systems such as Nextflow, WDL, etc., and proficiency with microservices architecture including the use of Docker and container orchestration.Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication and teamwork abilities.Preferred:Experience with cloud infrastructure AWS, Google Cloud is a plusExperience with software development tools such as Github, PyTest, CI/CD etc.Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.Who we areAt Roche, more than 100,000 people across 100 countries are pushing back the frontiers of healthcare.
