What You’ll Be DoingThe successful candidate will teach students in the Personal Support Worker program within the School of Nursing in FAHCS. In addition, the successful candidate will contribute to promoting the program, curriculum development and continuous improvement, program reviews, Virtual Reality integration, representing the PSW program across different strategic initiatives within Sheridan, and other strategic initiatives that maintains the delivery of a high-quality program. The position offers flexibility and independence while providing opportunities for stimulating exchanges with team members and students.The Faculty of Applied Health and Community Studies (FAHCS) prepares learners in the Personal Support Worker program for a rewarding career working with individuals across the lifespan while providing compassionate, holistic, and client-centered activities of daily living as a member of an interprofessional health team. Graduates will maintain and promote therapeutic relationships that meet the needs and expectations of their individual clients and families according to the plan of care. Through this program, students benefit from a newly designed curricula with high number of hours in client care skills lab and field placement where they can apply their theoretical knowledge, practical learning and clinical skills.Specific Responsibilities Include:

  • Ensuring that program and course curricula are current, relevant, and reflective of best practices within the relevant professional/program disciplines
  • Defining, evaluating, and validating learning outcomes for courses and programs
  • Creating an effective environment for applied learning which accommodates students’ diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences and learning styles
  • Designing appropriate strategies and tools for facilitating and assessing student learning that are invitational and reflective of best practices in teaching and learning
  • Developing appropriate strategies and tools to assess student performance that are consistent with the learning outcomes of the course and address multiple learning styles
  • Developing multi-media materials and alternative delivery strategies, and incorporating appropriate educational technologies into the applied learning process
  • Ensuring that students are aware of course and program learning outcomes, learning strategies and evaluation techniques; providing individual tutoring and academic counselling; and evaluating student progress/achievement within assigned courses
  • Working with students from diverse educational, religious, and cultural backgrounds

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (Masters preferred)
  • 3 years of relevant practical and professional experience working in a healthcare or higher education environment
  • Member in good standing with CNO
  • Teaching and curriculum development experience at the post-secondary level
  • Formal studies in adult or higher education will be considered an asset
