Valard has full-service capabilities for transmission, distribution, substations, foundations, telecommunications, and renewable energy.Valard Construction LP is looking to fill the position of a Project Accountant – Major Projects. Reporting to the Project Controller and this position is based out of our Edmonton office.As a Project Accountant- Major Projects you will be a key component and contributor to the success of major projects in the support of operation. The primary responsibility of the Project Accountant – Major Projects, is providing accounting functions and operational cost control for assigned projects. You will be involved in the full project life-cycle cost management of major projects including but not limited to:JOB DUTIES

  • Coordinate and execute the setup of new projects.
  • Manage account related activities.
  • Generate client invoices and track billing information.
  • Maintain and monitor project budgets.
  • Review and correct cost coding discrepancies.
  • Verify and administer contracts with subcontractors.
  • Manage and process accruals for project costs.
  • Record financial transactions through journal entries.
  • Reconcile project costs to ensure accuracy.
  • Provide support for processing change orders.
  • Compile and organize information for internal and external audits.
  • Assist Project Controller in closing and reviewing project costs on a weekly, monthly, and quarterly basis.
  • Support analysis of project profitability and performance.
  • Contribute to financial forecasting activities.
  • Undertake special projects and utilize Excel for ad hoc analyses.
  • Provide support and oversight for Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions as needed.
  • Manage the closeout process for completed projects.
  • Ensure control and adherence to established systems and processes.
  • Organize and facilitate month end cost accrual meetings with the PMs, buyers and receivers in order to gather and enter cost accrual information.

RequirementsEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Business Administration.
  • Construction background is desired and would be an asset.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in Excel is a requirement.
  • Experience with JD Edwards or SAP is preferred.
  • Cost control/Project Control background also an asset

  • Displays reliability, passion, and enthusiasm in approaching job responsibilities.
  • Maintains a high standard of discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive information.
  • Demonstrates a strong and motivated work ethic, devoted to accomplishing objectives and producing high-quality results.
  • Excellent knowledge of accrual-based accounting.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team are essential.
