Job description: Role OverviewReporting to the Controller, the Project Accountant is a specialized role within the accounting department that focuses on managing the financial aspects of specific projects and contracts within the company. Responsibilities involve closely monitoring project financials, ensuring compliance, and providing financial insights to support successful project execution.The Project Accountant plays a crucial role in ensuring that projects are financially successfully, adhere to budget constraints, and contribute to the overall financial health of the organization. Their expertise helps in making informed decisions and optimizing resource allocation for successful project outcomes.Accountabilities

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, and issue project invoices throughout the month to ensure timely billing.
  • Contribute to maintaining a healthy cash flow by generating, auditing, and sending invoices promptly
  • Create and issue purchase orders as needed for project requirements.
  • Update project contracts based on client specifications and manage related budget amendments.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Site Leads and Coordinators to issue and review daily LEMs.
  • Set-up and maintain all projects within Aimsio and Sage Intacct systems.
  • Monitor accounts receivable, assist the accounting team with collections, and ensure timely payment.
  • Track and manage project expenses, ensuring compliance with budgetary guidelines.
  • Prepare and analyze financial reports for individual projects, providing insights and recommendations for performance improvement.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to address financial concerns and identify opportunities for cost savings.
  • Assist with the preparation of financial statements and Ad Hoc reports

Qualifications

  • Accounting diploma
  • 3 to 5 years of general accounting experience and 1 – 2 years of Project Accounting experience
  • Experience in invoicing, billing and AR considered an asset
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel & Word).
  • Superior accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Collaborative team player with strong communication skills.
  • Ability to handle shifting priorities.
  • Excellent time management and organization skills.
  • Ability to work successfully in a high volume and high paced environment
  • Experience working with Aimsio and Sage Intact considered any asset
