Vaughan is your place to grow.Position OverviewThe Project Engineer – Transportation & Road Safety is responsible for providing engineering, practical and analytical expertise, as well as senior leadership to diverse technical experts in planning, and creating innovative solutions to help advance initiatives within all four pillars of the Move Smart Strategy: road safety, traffic data management, mobility management, and sustainable mobility, including but not limited to leading and supporting the development and implementation of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).Reporting to the Manager, Traffic Engineering, this position will liaise with project managers, technical disciplines, external stakeholders and support consultants and the development of programs by providing expertise for the Traffic Engineering Services Division through planning, coordination, execution, and approval processes. Providing leadership, mentorship, and technical expertise, the Project Engineer responds to citizen and stakeholder inquiries/complaints related to transportation and traffic safety, and consults with the public on complex highly visible road/traffic related concerns. Supervises, reviews and directs the work of staff and engages consultants/contractors by preparing bid packages. Administers the associated contracts and consultant assignments related to road safety and traffic management.This position also provides input into the review of development applications and multi-modal transportation projects. Prepares Council reports and presentations for management and presents recommendations to increase operational efficiency and public safety.At employee request, this position is eligible to take part in our hybrid work model as outlined in the City’s Alternative Work Arrangement Policy.Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical/Electronic Engineering, specializing in traffic/transportation.
  • Licensed as a Professional Engineer with the Professional Engineers of Ontario in good standing.
  • PMP Certification considered an asset.
  • Minimum seven (7) years’ of experience (inclusive of EIT experience) with complex project experience in Transportation Planning, Traffic Engineering, Transportation Management and ITS systems, road infrastructure, with demonstrated commitment to quality and process.
  • Extensive practical experience in a traffic engineering, road safety and traffic operations and sound knowledge of traffic and transportation engineering and design principles and applications.
  • Through knowledge of traffic engineering and operations principles, project management, contract administration provisions/procedures pertaining to municipal engineering, value engineering, Highway Traffic Act, Accessibilities for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, Ontario Health and Safety Act, Ontario Traffic Manuals, and Transportation Association of Canada Guidelines.
  • Project management and leadership skills including leadership of staff, consultants, vendors, and contractors.
  • Demonstrated superior organizational and project management skills to lead a project or work group, organize numerous tasks, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and analytical skills; excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to deal courteously and effectively with the Public, Staff, Members of Council, and Consultants.
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, strategic planning and conceptual thinking skills.
  • Effective negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated track record delivering projects on time and budget.
  • Skilled in leading effective project teams and developing collaborative internal and external business relationships.
  • Strong report writing and presentation skills and able to work with strict deadlines.
  • Strong organization and time management skills with political awareness and professional tact.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Synchro, AutoCAD, and various traffic engineering software.
  • Valid Ontario Class ‘G’ driver’s license, in good standing, with a access to a reliable vehicle for corporate use when required.
  • Ability to work outside normal business hours, as required.

Expected salary: $119380 – 139657 per year
