Job description: The City of Edmonton is seeking a dynamic and experienced Project Manager to join our Integrated Infrastructure Services team. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in shaping the future of our city’s transportation infrastructure by leading the planning, design, and delivery of key projects for the Valley Line LRT expansion.You will manage complex technical challenges, providing innovative solutions and expert guidance, uphold the City’s commitment to safety, sustainability, and community engagement.If you are a collaborative leader with a passion for project management, and a drive to make a positive impact, we encourage you to apply!What will you do?

  • Manage the planning & design and/or delivery for infrastructure projects including operational/strategic initiatives, resource and financial management
  • Review feasibility studies, master plans, functional programs and design reports, drawings and specifications, as well as operation and maintenance reports and manuals
  • Define the project goals, objectives and planned deliverables in order to fulfill the requirements of the Strategy and Operate Business Partners and Project Sponsors
  • Manage, monitor and report project milestones through detailed plans and schedules, ensuring the project is on budget, on schedule, and within the defined scope and quality
  • Perform activities related to thorough risk management for all projects
  • Resolve issues and continued advancement of the project goals and objectives and appropriate escalation when required
  • Lead multi-discipline teams consisting of consultants, contractors, business partners and stakeholders
  • Lead, establish and exemplify the desired culture throughout the project teams that supports the Integrated Infrastructure Services Vision and Mission as well as the Corporate Leadership Principles
  • Mentor and coach team members in a manner that fosters a culture of growth, development and continuous improvement
  • Contribute to the design, implementation and continuous improvement of project management processes and practices
  • Participate actively in the development and documentation of project lessons learned and risk management, demonstrating and accounting for impact to the City and the business partner
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • A Degree in a related field, such as Engineering, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Business or Project Management with a minimum of six (6) years of progressively responsible project management experience OR;
  • A Diploma in a related field, such as Engineering, Construction, Architecture, Landscape Architecture or Project Management with a minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible project management experience
  • Comprehensive understanding of construction processes related to civil, structural, mechanical, architectural and/or electrical disciplines
  • Strong project management skills including an understanding of project management methods and techniques (Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) best practices)
  • Demonstrated experience leading multi-disciplinary teams in the delivery of projects

Skills required for success:

  • Working knowledge of relevant codes, legislation, regulations, policies and procedures (OH&S, Environmental, Builders Lien Act, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience leading multi-disciplinary teams in the delivery of projects
  • Proven planning, organizational and problem solving skills
  • Experience implementing public engagement processes
  • Strong conflict resolution and negotiation skills with experience in solving complex and sensitive issues
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including report writing and presenting
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to develop strong relationships and work in a collaborative, integrated manner
  • Experience managing and working with external consultants
  • Ability and willingness to delegate and empower others

Conditions of employment:

  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s Licence (or provincial equivalent). Must obtain business auto insurance for personal vehicle use on City business

Work Environment:

  • This position ​may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement ​with ​the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52. ​
  • The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
