Job description: POSITION SUMMARY:The Project & Research Specialist is based in the Department of Education & Learning and provides support for policies, procedures, training, simulation, systematic reviews, research, and safety. This position supports the decisions of the Director of Education & Learning and the Vice President Education Administration and relevant committees.QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters Degree in a related field required
  • PhD in a related field is preferred
  • Minimum 3 years work related experience is required
  • Managerial skills, knowledge of education, research, and simulation.
  • Must have some knowledge and experience of systematic reviews.
  • Knowledge of computer programs for data collection, excel spreadsheets, word programs for creating documents, power point for presentations and Microsoft Outlook.
  • Must have effective communication skills and speak effectively to large groups for orientations

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage policies, procedures, training, simulation, systematic reviews, research, and safety.
  • Supervise education, research staff and student areas and provide support services to ensure that resources are appropriately utilized and beneficial to education, research staff and students.
  • Maintain liaison with investigators, education, research personnel and students to solve specific operating problems and improve activities, solve issues and identify/bring forward issues that require discussion and/or decisions and/or corporate approval.
  • Collaborates with investigators, education, research staff and students in order to plan, organize, participate in and evaluate the Education and Learning Program as it relates to training, simulation, education and research.
  • Oversees and coordinates all aspects of new and ongoing training and simulations.
  • Uses coordination skills and works collaboratively with study participants, staff and departments to complete research protocols. Performs study procedures and protocol specific investigational procedures.
  • Coordinate and manage the collection, delivery, entry, verification, analysis, and reporting of data.
  • Oversee the design and maintenance of databases, data collection forms, error checking methods, and related programs for collection, analysis, and reporting
  • Participates in corporate activities related to the improvement of the education and learning program; can include but not limited to policy development, simulation development and research committees
  • Work with Health and Safety Offices and McMaster University and St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton and other departments responsible for facilities and practices to ensure safe practices are observed in education, research space and that a continual program of space and procedural improvements is in place to ensure continuous safety improvement.
  • Monitor and review changing practices in the field of basic science administration and all associated areas related to regulations, best practice standards, and recognized leadership in the field.
  • Provide guidance and advice to principal investigators, education, research staff, and students with respect to the above
  • Maintain confidentiality and release of information in accordance with hospital policy at all times.
  • Obligation to review and commit to applicable departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Implementation of policies and procedures approved where appropriate by the Vice President Education and Director of Education & Learning.
  • Support the development of new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and prepare draft documents, review and update existing SOPs in collaboration with the relevant stakeholders
  • Attend and support committees related to education, research, simulation, safety and also work with other committees/departments within St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton and McMaster University as appropriate.
  • Provide training and orientation for education, research, simulation, safety, and corporate/shared equipment use
